Battery Box

The battery box on my 2008 International 23 CCD is super corroded on the inside. Any suggestions about cleaning and painting it?

With any acid filled battery, start by neutralizing with baking soda and water, lots of water if the location pertmits. Then decide how bad the damage is. If wood flooring has been soaked by acid it is not going to be repairable. best to remove and replace. metallic surfaces can be cleaned, reprimed and coated with a resistant paint or coating such as Rhinoliner or a brush on auto store version. Did a bunch of old volkswagons this way- held up very well.

At the point that the soda stops foaming,, the acid is gone,,, To help clean up the mess most parts stores carry battery cleaner.. Its mostly just soda,, but does have something else added that seems to clean up the scum better than just soda alone..

Our 72 Overlander had a mess in the battery box,, but this system cleaned it up well,.
