Bathroom Cabinet Door won't stay latched during travel

I love our new 2020 FC 27 bathroom cabinet mirrored door, especially after the tiny round shaving mirror in our 2014 FC 23. But every time we travel the door comes open and our stuff falls out. I am afraid some day the mirror will come off the piano hinge and shatter. I searched previous threads that were mostly concerned with keeping the door open rather than keeping closed. Has anyone found a way to keep it latched? Is there an adjustment I could try on the latch? So far we have used painter's tape and tried a bungee cord, but there really is nowhere to put it successfully.

I have a closet door that won't stay latched during transit. Added additional velcro strip and replaced the latch. Thinking about adding another latch. Wondering if they make a heaver rated latch to replace the original!

If you have the same angled. mirrored cabinet door I have on my 28, I put a small strap on the door with a snap under the cabinet. Works great as long as you remember to snap it before travel. DW does most of the interior travel prep and rarely forgets.
Picture is sideways, but you get the idea.

Had same problem on our 1st AS trip. Complained to dealer. Dealer put in a 2nd latch. But still didn't do the job!! I now wedge shims in between door/glass and sides, but like the idea above of a snap!

If your trailer is new, ask your dealer to replace the latch or add a second one. We had to do that as ours opened every single time we moved the trailer. The new one is far better -harder to open though. My husband hates that mirror anyway, he is tall and all he can see is his belly button unless he does a Quasimoto to see his face. We are trying to figure out how to have it not angle down.

I have never had this problem, but Atwebs is on the right track. Your 2020 has a warranty and you spent too much for it to not use it. Maybe the factory put the wrong latch in.

These "grabber latches" come in a range of pull ratings
Part Number Approx Force
C3-803 3 Lb.
C3-805 5 Lb.
C3-810 10 Lb.

And of course they are available on Amazon

I will be doing this to mine soon.
Thank you!

I just added 2 of the 10lb latches. Doubt it will open now.

Bathroom Cabinet door

Go to Lowe’s and buy two more latches and install them yourself. Takes about 30 mins. I did mine in about 15 mins. No problems since. Put one and try first before the second one. You might be please with just two.

I did the same and it works great.
This really is the best solution to truly secure the door from rough roads.

I had a similar latch fail and found that the alignment and depth adjustment is critical. The latch has to be closely mated to get the mechanism to pull-in fully. There are elongated holes on the mating parts that allow for adjustment.

Small one to two inch CLEAT and Elastic Band :)

Took an inch or so wide cleat, like a boat cleat. Two small screws into the bottom of the cabinet.

Cost: $1 to $2 for multiple cleats at a hardware store. Have extras for whatever else you want to play with.

A shoe lace around to the mirror's metal pull and wrap around the cleat. Worked after the first trip. A rubber band. An elastic shoe lace. A pony tail elastic tie. All will work.

The leverage is such it takes very little to hold it shut. The lift arms are spring loaded, but have no strength when closed.

Modify as needed. Our Off the Grid Boondocking roads can't UNDO it. But... I CAN.

You do not see the cleat. When you stop, untie or remove the elastic band. Works.

I had the exact same problem in our 2020 GT. I replaced the 5lb latch on the mirror with a 10lb latch and have not had a problem since, This is a very simple fix as the new latch looks identical to the old and installs in the same location.

If for some reason this doesn't work for you, you can try some of the other solutions mentioned here.

Has anyone tried magnetic latches? They work in household situations.

Update: replaced original latch and added a second latch. Both 10lbs. Also added additional industrial velcro on the small flipper door.
