Airstream Rockguard Flexible Draw Latch Hold Down Replacement

I've ordered a replacement Airstream Rockguard Flexible Draw Latch Hold Down for my 2017 International 25FB. The rubber component is failing.

My question to the group is has anyone replaced one and how did you go about doing this. The replacement comes with the two metal brackets.

The brackets appear to be riveted to the body with a gasket in between. I'm not sure whether I should attempt to drill out the rivets or instead try to drill out the pin that holds the rubber part to the bracket.

Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

I think I would try to drill out the pin holding the rubber latch and just leave the bracket attached to the trailer. If there is too little room to get a drill into the space available, cut the rubber around the pin and remove it. The pin could then be cut with a set of side cut pliers or cut off with a Dremel tool. The new latch could be attached with a stainless nut and bolt.

Brilliant.

I'm going to cut the rubber and pin and replace with a stainless bolt.

Thanks

Use a nylock or other self-locking stainless steel nut so it doesn’t shake loose...cheap insurance against it working loose on the road!
