In 2017 we had the dealer install a 2" receiver on our 2017 FC26U. At the time we figured we would use it for a bike rack, but after reading the recommendations against doing so, we decided not too. About the 3rd camping trip we realized that we had brilliantly solved an issue, that as newbies, we didn't initially know we had. It is the perfect place to stash and lock our Equalizer Hitch and the WD bars stow perfectly in the bumper compartment. Several camper friends have done the same and are as happy as we are!

There those that have 'heard' it's not recommended and those of us who have actually done it and can attest to the fact that it works. Mine has a torque and weight limit of 150 pounds, which is perfect for a rack and a pair of ebikes.

Adding the hitch doesn't guarantee separation, it just increases the likelihood. If you are willing to take a risk of increasing the likelihood of an adverse event, that call is up to each owner when balancing the risk-reward equation.

Personally, I would side with Ronnie Dennis, who in Post #9 very explicitly recommended against it, over almost anyone who has done it and just hasn't experienced any issues yet.

My airstream had rearend separation without a bike rack, however I blame that more on the po traveling with full tanks and leaks that rotted out then plywood floor across the back.

Interesting I received an email from airstream supply today with this picture that appears to show an airstream with a rear hitch.

Here is a follow up to my previous statement that rear hitches are an incredibly bad idea. I found a few photos of the damage they can cause.
