!981 27' International; two month punch list
Hi all!
I am the proud new owner of a 1981 27’ international trailer (the “double” model) as well as a new member on this forum. I have spent some time stalking around threads looking for general help/advise on a few known issues but thought it might be a good start to post here to both introduce myself and ask a few quick questions.
My fiancée and I bought the trailer in Houston, drove it back to Austin and managed to winch it into the backyard. The plan is to live in it in place, for about 6 months from Jan 2021 while our house is being renovated. I just ordered the service manual and have experience restoring cars and general woodwork and construction.
The trailer is in good condition for its age with little to no rust and pretty tidy interior. That being said there are a few issues and things I’d like to do. I have two months to do repairs and upgrades and would appreciate any advice and wisdom you could impart. Here is what I am thinking in rough priority order:
• Fix what seems to be a leak of some kind from behind the door side front wheel (there is some kind of lower pan there, so I assume it is a tank).
• Repair door lock- it was working before but now the lock doesn’t seem to catch the door??
• Check the gas and hot water system.
• Run a new tap from my properties sewage line and connect the grey and black water (I can’t find much info on this and would appreciate any help/direction).
• Repair the front non-door side sub floor where it is decayed (is it possible to do proper floor repair without taking the whole shell off?!).
• Replace the vinyl flooring and paint the inside.
• Upgrade the bathroom/shower – I am 6’4” so would appreciate a better show situation.
• Modify from “double” to a double double – remove the desk and cabinet and put in another bed
• Remove current fold out sofa and build U-couch w/table
I am also aware this is extremely ambitious list!
