Left for dinner came back and it was off with vapor coming out. It won't even power on any more. Check the breaker box and all is good.. any suggestions?
I thought it was smoke but it was more like fog. The ac is a manual ac not connected to a thermostat. It had zero power then I rented a hotel room, on my way out of the air stream I tried it one last time and it kicked on.. after a few minutes it started making a squealing noise like the fan is rubbing on something. I had to turn it off... I'm currently staying at a hotel room over night. For a 2018... I'm, disheartened to say the least.
1. Voltage - where are you plugged in? Low voltage will cause the AirCon not to start or if it does not to cool.
2. Temp knob - check the knob position very closely as the knob for the air is reasonably symmetrical and could be pointed 180 degrees off.
3. Try setting the fan on Auto and then put it in Cool Mode. Does the fan run fine? Ie does the issue only arise when the compressor try’s to start?
4. It is possible that the start or run capacitor located in the roof mounted shell failed. These are $20 parts. They do fail from time to time. You would need a ammeter or some multimeters have this function, along with a comfort level getting up on the room and working with hot 120v circuits.
We had a similar experience with our previous motor home. Refrigerant line had ruptured and filled the RV with a cloud in the middle of the night...we thought we were on fire but no smoke smell. The vapor you saw may have been the refrigerant as it looks like smoke. Sorry to say the AC unit had to be replaced but ours was still under warranty and we went by the manufacturer location in Winkler and they replaced it (2 hr job)
Our sport 22fb ac would make noise.... but the fan wouldn't start. At the start of the season I had installed a softstart and thought I might of did something wrong. I checked my connections and everything looked fine. I then tried spinning the fan and it was stuck. It ended up being a dead squirrel stuck in the fan blades. Lol
I guess that’s why they often refer to that particular fan design as a “squirrel cage”.
