1968 Tradewinds window fell off

We were camping in full sun last summer with our windows open and I was shocked to see one of our panes had slid out of the frame and was laying on the ground. We were very lucky it didnt shatter when it fell. Evidently on the 1968 models the panes are clamped in place at the top with some kind of black tar looking sealer. The sealer heated up and became soft which allowed to window to slide right out. Has anyone had experience with this? I could dig out the tar sealant and replace with silicone but that might cause other problems. We like having fresh air but we sure dont want to have windows falling out of the frames! ????

The 66, 67, and 68s all had the same type of “frameless” windows. On our 66, we removed all the glass, cleaned the channels thoroughly and used 3M Super Weatherstrip and Gasket adhesive. We ran a bead in the channel, slid the glass in and shut the window tightly overnight. Tested the next day and all was good. Good luck

Eric, let me back up a minute. That’s what I used for the gaskets. We did use an adhesive to stick the glass to the channel, but need to go back in our notes and figure it out. Many used the double stick tape, but that makes me nervous. There is a Frank’s Trailer Works blog 1966 - 1968 Windows 101 that gives a tutorial on glass replacement for those years. I’ll keep checking. Ours are holding up very well.

Found it. We used Tempro 744 from VTS to secure the glass to the top frame.

Had the very same thing happen to ours during the renovation. Came home to find glass laying on gravel drive, very surprised that it did not break. I used silicone on the clamp to secure glass, per other forum recommendations....I still have two extra glasses in the attic, just in case.
