1962 30’ Sovereign

I just picked up my “new” 52 year old 31’ Sovereign. I’ve learned that Airstream did not publish repair manuals until 1964. If that is true I’m going to need some guidance in systems and operations.

I also think the water tank filler neck is missing (I’m real new to this). Does anyone have information on finding replacement parts?

Great find and working on it will be a lot of fun. There is an encyclopedia of knowledge here on the forums. Also, there is a section on the Forums Knowledgebase that has a couple of renovation threads on early 60’s Sovereigns. There are also venders like Vintage Trailer Supply, Inland RV, and Airstream Supply that you may want to check out for parts. I have fond memories of Brenham working there as an apprentice forty years ago and remember Weezypop the Campus Cop. Ask the questions. Have fun and good luck. Bubba

Thanks Bubba! I failed my “public math” exam; “The Mothership” is actually 56 years old. I found the Vintage website and will check out the others. I found some mysterious wiring that I’ll be chasing down. There’s no telling what modifications have been performed in the past five decades.

Oh yea, the wiring! Working on a '63 ambassador now. Same wiring problem as my others. Shorts between the skins. Seems back in the day the boys did'nt allways get the rubber gromets in the body bows where the wires ran. Sharp edges cut wire insulation after 50 yrs. Or, pinched a wire when they installed the interior skins. Or, nicked one when drilling. My personall all time favorite is the 110v recp next to the entry door. Sharp edge nicked the live. pluged into shore power for a test, grabed the door handle. *&#$%@. Gets your attention. Rule one on vintage A streams. That craftmanship and precision hype was a marketing myth. Still gotta lovem though
