Trailer Brake Laws by State

The subject came up about if trailer brakes were required (as opposed to just a good idea .
Something was stuck in my mind that Washington required a brake-away device but I couldn't remember if trailer brakes per say were required for travel trailers. I found this list that might be useful for those out seeing the good 'ol USA:

If I read it right North Dakota is the most restrictive requiring brakes on everything. Idaho's at 1500# and a few others at 2000#. Most States set the limit at 3000# but there are a few that don't have a requirement (1). Surpised me that Oregon was one but then again they allow semis to pull triple trailers

(1) n/a might mean information "not available" as oppsed to "not applicable"

Interesting. I looked at the maximum combination lengths, and New Hampshire and New Jersey have a max tow vehicle and trailer length of 48'. I guess towing a 34' coach with anything but a Yugo, length-wise, would be illegal.
