Strange noise from bottom of trailer when trailer is stationary

Hi everyone.

I have a 2019 Globetrotter with 10K miles on it. When someone walks in the trailer a strange noise comes from the bottom of the trailer. It started toward the end of last season and has gotten worse this year. I went under the trailer while my wife walked around inside and it appears that it is coming from the center of the trailer near the tires and the holding tanks. But I could not isolate exactly where it is coming from. The forum wouldn't allow me to attach an audio or video file so I gave a link to the audio file below.

Appreciate if you could listen to it and provide some suggestions.

Probably your brakes. We had/have similar noise on one side of the trailer. The dealer inspected them and said the brakes were fine and properly adjusted but the noise was coming from the pads slightly rubbing agains the drum. The noise is only noticeable when walking in the trailer without X chalks on the wheels due to the slight back and forth motion of the drum. If you have some X chalks try putting them on and see if the noise goes away.

Old Thread About This

The noise is the brake shoes rubbing against the backing plate. A small dab of grease is intended to lube this area. The grease has dried out or was never there in the first place.
A very extensive discussion on this may be read here.

Post #30 is where I fixed mine.

It is annoying but nothing to be concerned about. Unfortunately, the wheels and drums have to be removed to lube the effected area.

We had a sound much like that and it was a missing nut on one of the shocks. We acually had 2 nuts missing... It would be a good idea to check for loose or missing nuts on the shocks.

Wonder if it is in the rubber casing of the axel?

See breakdown of Dexter torsion axle, or the bracket to frame bolts.

Squeeking noise while parked.

I have had that issue on and off for years. Brake inspection showed no issues.
Solution was to place wheel chock in front of right side rear wheel, slightly drive forward, place second chock behind front right wheel and shift TV into neutral to even out the preload on the two chocks effectively stabilizing the trailer preventing forward / rearward movement. This not only helps keep the trailer from moving but eliminates the noise, mystery solved. Hope this works for you.

You might give these a try. They are simple to use and eliminate the noise for us as well. Really good deal on them at Amazon right now.

When the trailer is a squeaking don’t go a peaking!

We had this noise on our previous trailer and I’ve heard it on our Airstream as well. It’s the breaks/wheels. Nothing causing harm but can be annoying if you’re not chocked up well.

I have a 2020 Flying Cloud with the exact same noise! I have crawled under the trailer with my wife walking in the trailer and have not been able to identify the exact spot its coming from, but seems to be coming from the suspension. I have oiled and greased all the visible joints and bolts and nothing seems to work. Luckily we don't hear it when we are inside the trailer but it bothers me that something down there seems to need lube. I will try the posted suggestions and see if anything works.

We're curious to a resolution here. We have a 2018 27' Flying Cloud FB and when parked, wheels choked and stabilizers down we hear a cha-chunk when entering and exiting the the coach. It it's brakes...

Not sure what Danny T’s noise is but the OP’s noise is brakes/axel and X-chocked should solve it.

My Money is on the magnet:-)

My argument for the magnet and drum.
Magnet And spring

When I do brake inspection the drum when rotation makes minor sound with contact with brake shoes. When you give it a turn up wheel off. Good thing.
The magnet rides all the time up against drum. The spring in there middle of the magnet can lose some of its flexibility as brake dust and such. Also the magnet and spring gets very hot when electricity is applied. Electrons what are you gonna do?
I will turn or replace 2 of my drums in next 10.000 mi because there are not flat anymore. Th way the magnet is riding is making edges. It could also be torsion arm where it’s plugged in to the rubber cords on the hollow tube. Axle. Maybe the rubber cord making some noise? Either end of the shock maybe but still my money is on the magnet.

One thing that has not been mentioned: squeaky stabilizers. When we had our AS, I would notice sound coming from underneath the trailer, so I lubed the stabilizer arms and that helped. Also the awning makes a racket too that would send sound through the interior. FWIW. Jonathan

My money is on the *KVO spring needing an adjustment.
Something in the suspension is rubbing something that doesn't like it, I reckon.

(*Kanuten Valve Opinion Spring.)

Kidding aside...Me being me, I'd have SWMBO hose a small section of the suspect area at a time while I bounce up and down inside, she then hollers like the Hatfields if/when the squeak stops.

Now, it might not be fixable, but at least it goes away when wet.
