New Brake controller

Just installed and used for the first time this weekend the Brakesmart controller. IMO there was a noticeable difference between braking with it vs the Prodigy which I had on the previous tow vehicle. Did not feel the brake fade on it that I often did on the Prodigy. It also alerts you to an electrical fault or brake disconnect. On diesels it has/or will have the free upgrade of brake temperatures as well. I was satisified with the Prodigy, but I'm happy with the Brakesmart.

Our Brakesmart has not been installed yet but can't wait. I didn't want to do it on the eve of a 3500 mi. trek.

Go for it!!!

Ed and Debbie,

I put my own BrakeSmart in the truck in about thirty minutes including the master cylinder tap, mounting of the controller, routing of cables and zip tying them up and out of the way. It is SO easy to do and it was SO much nicer than my last system. You won't believe the difference.

As Tin Hut notes the system automatically alerts you (in plain old english) if your trailer's brakes have disconnected themselves. This recently happened after a particularly rough section of the Al-Can that had thirty feet of electrical brake lines dragging behind the A/S...we stopped up the road and fixed it before going down the next section of mountain passess. I don't want to think about having to pull off an abrupt stop for something in the road, not knowing that you now have no trailer brakes...that would...suck!
Good Luck!

One more thing

If you do the install yourselves don't forget to look for the rubber grommet thingy to the right of the steering column on the firewall. Just punch an "X" through it with a knife and push your line right through rubber. Makes the install easier and eliminates the need to drill a hole in the firewall...and keeps the cabin quieter.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to do it myself but I'm hoping to get some in-person moral support from Tin Hut ...we live less than 10 miles away
