inspecting my brakes on my 2019 27ft FB

Hi All,
Planning on inspecting my brakes on my 2019 27ft FB. I have 20,000 miles on the trailer. I have no brakes issues at this time. This will be my first inspection.

I have 4 new brake backing plates in case I would need them. I am a recent retiree and a "most timer" traveling about 15,000 miles per year in the last year.

If the shoes, drums and other hardware shows no sign of excessive wear or damage should I just clean things up with brake cleaner and not replace the backing plates? Is there a much greater chance of multiple things starting to go wrong with the brakes after 6 years and more than 25,000 miles. I would gladly take your suggestions!
Thanks

Brakes

I have a 2005 Safari 30 Bunk that I bought new. Every May I pull off the drums and look at the brakes and grease bearings/replace seals. This year marks my 20th time doing it on this trailer and every year it amazes me how much a beating the grease takes. Glad I do not push these intervals. I travel alot in the hot summer and these bearings are something I would not want to have to deal with out on the road.

My opinion is just clean and adjust the brakes if they have plenty of pad. I am on my third backer plates with brakes in 127k miles of towing so they do last. My second set took a beating as I was doing a decent amount of boondocking with alot of weight (water etc) and towing with a lighter tow vehicle. This is the most important maintenance item on the Airstream if feel.

But I thought I’d try a set of E Trailer Brakes.

Much much cheaper and look the same to me?

Bad idea???

🙃

They are usually cheaper for a reason - most likely made of "chinesium" and inferior components.....

We just had a shop inspect the brakes on our 2019 25FC with 39K on it. Report was 80% shoe material remaining. I would think you would be unlikely to need replacement. Look at the Dexter service material, there are one or two places which should be lubricated.
