I think itís time to replace brake controller

We have an old wireless brake controller. Itís a Prodigy RF. The only reason I have it, is because when we bought a 2011FC FB we were pulling with our 04 Toyota Landcruiser. We bought it up in Quad Cities, and I didnít trust the AS dealer up there to tear into the Landcruiser wiring. He had the RF model on the shelf, there was no wiring that needed to be done on the LC. Itís worked very well for 12 years. When we swapped the 23FB for a 25FB in Jan of 2020, I just had the Chicago AS dealer move the controller over to the 25. Itís worked fine, until two days ago. About 800 miles into a 1400 mile trip I kept getting the ďn.c.Ē Message on the controller. And had absolutely no trailer brakes. The covering on the wires going into the controller has just broken apart. I donít think thereís a short there, but not sure.
Anyone with any experience with these? Iím guessing it just needs to be trashed, and Iíll put a new direct wired controller. But we are in the Keys, and Iíve got a 1400 mile trip home in 10 days.
If someone has some trouble shooting tips, Iíd love to hear them. Iíve googled it, and havenít come up with much.

Final chapter. I ordered and installed a new Prodigy 2 brake controller from Amazon. It wasn’t very difficult to do. When I got it installed, I had the same code as before with the RF controller. All I could see was “n.c.” I posted on the facebook pages for airstreams and tundras. Received good advice there to CHECK THE TRAILER BRAKE WIRING.. That was it. The wires for the curbside rear axle trailer brake were broken apart. Reconnected them and all is well. So, I threw out a working Prodigy RF co troller and replaced it with the new Prodigy 2 for no reason. Maybe someone else will have brake controller issues, and they’ll search this thread group, and find this thread. DO NOT replace the controller until you check the trailer brake wires. Holy crap, what a fiasco. I guess I should have gone to FB before I came here. Might have saved me some aggravation.
