How do you thread your emergency brake switch cable to TV ?
Currently threading mine through one of the hitch chains...then to hitch ...quite a bit of slack...any advice???

Yes...shorten the cable. Many will suggest not threading through the chains. I'll be interested to follow this thread to see what others do.
I always heard the break-away cable should be slightly shorter than the chains, so that the plug gets pulled before the chains are at full extension. Otherwise you get no auto braking because the chains engage first.

I should add that the AS dealer threaded mine this way during orientation...looked very sloppy and lots of slack in the cable with gaps that I felt could snag...
On the other hand...on my previous RV , there were times I was nervous that I had not allowed enough play and that a hard turn or such would disengage switch...[emoji41]

I thread mine through the hole on the receiver where the chain hooks on, then back to the coupler and fastened with the pin through latch handle. Never thread it through the chain links.

I put an eye hook in one of the licence plate screw holes and run it through that, this way the AS is directly attached to my TV in case the whole hitch weld comes loose

I thread mine through the hole on the receiver where the chain hooks on, then back to the coupler and the loop goes through the lock that keeps the latch handle closed.

I thread mine through a spot on the frame independent of the receiver. Like Castaway, I do it this way in case of receiver failure. I don’t have any problem with extra cable length.

I wrap a few turns around the umbilical cord to take up slack, then put it on the safety chain hook.

The emergency brake cable should be short enough that if the trailer comes off the ball and the chains extend the brakes will be active. On my rig the umbilical cord would not disconnect if the chains were fully extended.

X2
Never thread thru the chains, never knot the chains to shorten them.
Attach breakaway cable securely to the vehicle, receivers also fail. 🥴

If you feel really enthusiastic. Cut it to the correct length and re crimp the eye. Then attach it to the receiver with another D shackle.

You want the chains to engage first to prevent complete trailer breakaway — that’s what they’re for. Breakaway switch is to engage trailer brakes if it completely detaches from theTV.

I'm absolutely 100℅ sure that my regular maintenance inspections of my receiver will prevent it from ever falling off.

Well...go ahead do it your way instead of the correct way, it is your trailer after all. 😂

For those of you who have purchased and used the Fastway cable, did you buy the 4 foot or 6 foot version?

I purchased the four foot version.
From their site: “The 4′ cables are recommended for bumper pull trailers, and the 6′ cables fit gooseneck or 5th wheel trailers”
