GM brake control ?

Hooking up my prodigy brake controler to my 06' GMC SIERRA .Is the ground wire big enough.Im using the factory supplied brake control harness.I thought this harness would work but now im not so sure.The ground seems way to small like 18-20#. Is anyone using this factory harness.THX IN ADVANCE.

Unless they've changed the harness, I have an '04 Burb 3/4 ton, Prodigy and connected the unit using the harness supplied. I haven't had any issues in nearly 2 years of towing. Keep in mind that even if you were to change the wirining harness, the rest of the wiring is most likely the same.

Ditto on Eric's comments. I've put in a few pigtails and found nothing problematic in my '06 Sierra when I did it before the spring towing season. It's working well. My only problem so far has been mounting the Prodigy in the required horizontal position. The under dash areas are pretty steep on this truck.

I mounted mine to the right and down at about knee hieght.It sits at about 55-60 degrees.You can go up to 70.It looks good in that position however I have"nt used it yet.One other thing.Im using a dexter Actuator don't know if that makes a dif however the minimum is a 20 amp circuit.

Just checked my truck. The ground wire from the Prodigy is white. It connects to black from the pigtail -- a small wire as you describe.

I'm in over my head addressing Dexter disc brakes. Some threads that may be relevant are here and here. But I hope you get a reply on your thread.

Prodigy

Is it OK to leave the power on the Prodigy while not towing your trailer. Just picked up my new 23' Safari and the dealership set it up. And if I power off will I lose the settings? Sorry the questions are so dumb but new as this. I

Brake Control

The ground wire on the factory harness is only to supply the circuitry of the brake control and has nothing to do with the ground on the trailer brakes, that would be a function of the ground wire/size in you tow cable, correct size would be 2 10ga for power and ground, 1 12 ga for brakes and 4 14 ga for lights.

Yes Larry, everybody leaves the Prodigy attached all the time. There is no provision for shutting it off -- nor a need to. The calibration setting for how much power is applied how soon is mechanically established by the adjustment wheel. There is nothing lost if disconnected but in my experience I bump it and begin to think I have brake problems. Checking the manual activator periodically and before setting out on a trip should be on your checklist -- your instructions explain how to do this.
