Electric Brake Controller, recommendations?

Rob, If you have a Duramax and Allision, the trailer wiring is already mostly in the vehicle. You just need to hook up the controller to the electrical center on the floor (one plastic nut to remove to get at it). I just ordered my Prodigy from www.brakecontroller.com (actually Southwest Wheel). It was shipped today, so I should have it Thursday. Anyway, they have an April special for the Prodigy - $124.95 with free 2-day shipping and a free harness specific to your tow vehicle ('02- GM, '03+ GM, Ford, or Dodge) that is already terminated on both ends. Just plug it in and go. The only other thing to do is mount the controller to the dash. It seems so simple I can't imagine paying anyone to do it. Also, I called and had them confirm that this is the latest 2.4 version of the Prodigy although that is not stated on their web site. Good Luck.

I too own both controls and not many people have tried both but those that do always agree with what you said. I once sold both and believe me, I can sell a lot Prodigy because they are popular, especially because dealers can slap them in quick and charge the customer an hours labor but what you said was exactly what I experienced. I quit selling Prodigy because I felt that strong about it. People would return them because they wanted to try the Jordan then what do i do with a used controller. I found that most of our customers are very experienced in towing and prefer the simple mechanical/electrical design of the Jordan.

I am a new owner of a 1973 31'. I just bought a Prodigy a couple of weeks back. There are two internet places that have better pricing that what has been mentioned so-far. Check out these two web-sites:

I bought at the second site since they happen to be just down the road from me (I am in Portland, OR) and the shipping cost from the other site made the difference about a wash. The special connection pigtails are about $9.00. I installed mine in our 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 using the pigtail that I received with the truck (the truck came with the trailer towing option package and the pigtail). I spent a total of about 1 hour but that was mostly because of the location I decided to mount the unit and the fact that I needed to drill a hole in the panel below the steering wheel to get the wire out of site faster. The installation directions were pretty clear with enough information to connect up even if you do not already have a built in jack. I bought some crimp connectors to connect to my pigtail and found they were allready included in the box.

I do not yet have much experience with the unit but it seemd to work fine when I towed the 31' home from where we bought it.
