Help ...Brake Controller; Curt Spectrum or ...

We are looking at brake controllers for our 2017 GMC Yukon. Unfortunately, it did not come with the integrated controller on the dash. We would like to install a "two part" controller that has a small actuator which can be located where convenient and a module that may be placed under the dash or ...

We have no recent experience with the newer proportional / triple axis motion sensing accelerometer two part controllers ... your experience / advice is appreciated; thank you in advance. Lo0oking at Curt Spectrum and Redarc ...

We've been using the Redarc in our Sprinter. Works great and I don't hit my knee on it!

I've used the Tekonsha Prodigy for over a decade. Been out of looking at the market for these for some time, but easy install, pretty much plug and play with the harness and not very expensive. I had the Voyager first and was nowhere near as good as the Prodigy, FWIW.

I've had several brake controllers. Maybe I'm just lucky but I've never needed parts after they are intalled.

Anyway, if you are looking at two controllers and are concerned about one of them, sounds like you've made your decision.

Teknosha Prodigy P3. Not familiar with the ones you are looking at but do make sure that they are proportional controllers and not time based controllers.

eTrailer Teknosha P# 3,354 5 star reviews, Redarc 134 5 star, Curt Spectrum 10 5 star.

I've used the Tekonsha Prodigy P3
it is great
no issue

ensure that you have it setup by a trailer GURU such as Andy at Can-am RV in London.
Once setup for the RV, no need for future changes or adjustments

I am asking about two part controllers ... that is what we prefer to buy. At 71 y/o, I have lots of experience setting up a variety of trailers and controllers but we want to try one of the two part newer series controllers.

Redarc

We installed the Redarc, I've just used it 3 times seems to do a great job. I liked that it went through its cal. Routine before we picked up the trailer. It was an easy install, but beware the control knob needs to mount in a reasonably thin material ( less than 3mm ).
IMHO most modern electronics is pretty reliable, if a part fails it usually would happen within a couple of hundred hours of use.

DirecLink Lite Proportional Trailer Brake Controller (DL-50)

I've been looking at these, but I haven't bought one yet: https://tusonrvbrakes.com/products/direclink-dl-50 (currently on back order)

"The new DirecLink-50 proportional trailer brake controller is lite and affordable with most of the functionality of the DirecLink-100. The Tuson DirecLink product line is the most advanced proportional trailer brake controller and diagnostic tool. Plugs directly into your tow vehicle’s computer network, automatically configuring to your tow vehicle and trailer’s brake system. The large color display allows you to monitor your trailer brake’s system status and provides warnings when system errors or failures have occurred."
They also make an electronic anti sway unit that uses your trailer brakes but it's a little pricey.
