Why Michelin tires?

As an engineer, I would say speed does not necessarily kill, but a big difference in velocity certainly will.

Better check your statement. Any brand 16" LT tire has as much or more capacity than an ST tire plus being a better made, safer tire. LT's are used everyday in the real world on much heavier trailers.

Doing 60 on freeways through the city where I live will probably cause a wreck. I try to go with the flow and I wouldn't drive on a tire rated at 65 mph max even if I only did 60. Statistically a small percentage of drivers will always be going faster and that's OK. As an engineer I know there is margin in load ratings but would rather not be a test pilot.

May be. And I have driven I75, 275 and 94 in all hours. If one stays in the slow lane there will be hacked off drivers behind. And there may be a wreck however it will be from the drivers behind the trailer fighting to merge left.

Which is nothing on CA freeways where on some interstates the speed limit is 70 for cars and 55 for trucks and vehicles with trailers. Other freeways and highways the speed limit is 65 for cars and vehicles with trailers are still 55 for the entire state as far as know. With double or more of the amount of traffic than anywhere in Wayne county.

Why does everyone on here compare all St tires with junk Goodyears? There are really good St tires out there you just have to find one that's right for you.

Yea tight! Made in China or tiawain, around $100, michelins are around $170, you always get what you pay for, there aren't any bargains out there, been there and done that...

+1. It's mostly about the the conditions in which you're driving. I really don't feel like I'm driving unsafely when I'm doing 75-80 across Wyoming during the day and the weather is good. (I do slow down at night, during inclement weather, in construction zones, on rough roads, and when nearing a city however for obvious reasons.) YMMV.

Incorrect, my LT firestones have the same or higher weight rating as any ST tires I could find. Weight rating 117, I think.the michelins have thr same rating as the firestones.

When looking at the load tables for a specific LT Load E tire for Michelin and other brands like Firestone, the load ratings were the same for each 5 psi increment in tire air pressure.

The 2014 31' Classic (GVW of 10,000 pounds) came with 15" GYM ST225/75R15D tires that were rated 2,540 pounds at 65psi. They were replaced with Michelin LT225/75R16/E LTX M/S2 tires that are rated 2,680 pounds @ 80 psi. So the Michelin have additional load capacity, no rational speed restrictions (the sidewall restriction of 65mph is on the GYM tires).

The key is not to panic and swerve when you're cut off. I'd rather trade some paint and have the other driver ticketed/wrecked than swerve and have a single-car accident/wreck my Airstream and have a citation for that.
