Absolute best tire-
Are you asking for the OE 14" rim or are you you looking for any option including changing rim sizes to 15"?

If "money is no object", I highly recommend that you start by upgrading to 15" wheels, as many of us 23' owners have done. Will only add about $500 to the cost.

If you move up to 15" rims I would go with an LT215/75R15 Load range C or D.
This will raise your trailer 1/2"
GoodYear Wrangler H/T
Nexen Rodian HT
Yokohama Geolander A/T-S
You could even go to the LT235/75R15 LRC or P235/75R15XL. They will raise your trailer 1".

We did the upgrade a few years ago and went with Michelin LTX M/S2 and are very satisfied. Check out this link:

Popular wheels have been the Sendel T02 or T03. Airstream offers this wheel as an option.

The "absolutely best" tire is Michelin XPS Ribs, although they are only available in size 16 inch. They are also pricey, approx. $250, although I've read many reviews of their being almost bullet-proof & good on a truck or trailer for over 100K miles.

You will want reliability from sudden failure, soft ride, and excellent traction for braking. Most have switched to 15" wheels and Michelin LTX MS/2. Air pressure relates to all three desired qualities, and that preference is all over the place. We use a manufacturer's load chart for our tires to determine air pressure, with some extra pressure assuming not all tires are carrying equal loads on each particular trip.

The XPS Rib does not apply to the op's question, but there have been concerns about the stiffer sidewall and ride quality for Airstreams. We discussed it before:

Even if you toss out price as a qualifier in selection, there is no "best" tire that anyone can say for sure. It depends on your usage pattern (how often used) , area driven in (road conditions), heat, speeds driven, and so many other factors that the it is impossible to say. And no one has ever done any side by side comparison tests, if such tests could even be developed.
So, all you will get are opinions. Nothing more.

Having been in the trucking business for close to 40 years I found Michelin and Bridgestone to be the best. I currently have Michelin on my TT and TV. No complaints. LT (light truck) tires would be the best choice.

In order to answer the question, I need to know the tire size. My recommendations would be different for a 14" - a second answer for a 15" - and a third answer for a 16"

That trailer came with 14" tires when new.
Obviously, my earlier answer was tongue-in-cheek, though they are guaranteed to not go flat.

Just bought a 1966 20' Globe Trotter (2900#) with Carlisle Trail ST225/75R15 Range E. I need to replace and was wondering if Michelin LTX M/S - 225/75R15 would work?

Michelin doesn't produce a 225/75R15! In fact the only thing available in a 225/75R15 that would be suitable are ST's. No LT's!
