ultra violet damage

Alas, my TT will now be sitting idle for some months.Do I need to be concerned about UV damage to my tires? If so is it simply a matter of covering them up? AS always, all sage advice will be weighed and considered. Thank you.

Tire Covers or a cheap tarp.

a quick spritz of a good tire protectant with uv block will help if you don't cover them.

Dee Sun, Dee Sun

Brouck,

In the Valley of the Sun, (Phoenix) Bobby's advise is king. Anything short of a cover, of any type, will not cut it. I personnally use a piece of vinal roof material that was left over from a project that I did. It keeps the sunlite out and I didn't pay anything for it. And it has lasted for 5 years.

Anything that is light tight will work.

Now Bobby, that's not an Airstream!!!!!!!!!

tire togs

Thank you guys.It was not really something I had considered up here where maybe the snow will be above the axels before long but I was asked about it by another RVer and I trust the opinions of the majority of those taking part in the forums.

up here

Brouck,,,you said "up here".; Were you indicating up North? and if you were, by that do you mean that being up north doesn't cause as much conern?

I'm going to make my covers before next spring. I haven't had covers or UV protection spray on mine; and it's been 'parked' for 3 1/2 years. Oh Oh! I'm in trouble eh? One is nearly flat.

Tomorrow I have a friend coming with a compresser to fill them all up;;;should set "hard" or not...? Like 85 psi ? or 75 psi ?

How can I tell if they have suffered damage from the sun? How much do new tires cost? I have a twin axle..so I'd need at least 2 for the outside?

or is that dumb to replace only 2? My GAWD...does everything hit at once!?
Is there a website http://www.rvtireexchangedforremodelingdesign.com/ ?

Along with UV ozone also will deteriorate the rubber. When a tire is constructed a wax is added to the rubber. When it rolls and flexes it heats and the wax comes to the surface and helps protect the tire. Do you know how long they were on before you got the trailer? Just sitting 3 1/2 years is enough time to destroy them. There are 4 of them on 2 axles.

make sure your friend with the compressor reads the information on the side wall of the tires before inflating them.

i doubt they get 85 psi...

are your tires cracked on the sidewalls? if not they may be o.k.

they should be "st" rated, you can find this info on the sidewall of the tire as well.

there are many other reasons why you have one tire lower than the others. bad valve stem or a nail in it. both can be repaired.

psi

Thank you John H.
That was good info..
I appreciate it...
Last night, I got a private email (on the Forum) from someone who said I aggravate members, because I don't read carefully...
and I just want to apologize to you all if I have.
jThis is just a small part of the message she sent me:

It's frustrating to people to spend their limited forum time directing others <<

Again, John ... thank you so much. I'll pass this info on to my friend.

Nice people & ?

Thanks John...my Daddy told me to ignore Whiners and give my friendship and energies to those nice people...You are one of those nice people...
thanx again.

Bobby,,,,what are your tire covers made of? and how much did they cost? I bought some material & cord to make my own...and I want to know if its worth my effort...or if I should just buy some in the meantime...Can you get some cheap...? someone mentioned just using a piece of tarp...Tacky but it'd work...You can get a tarp in Silver/Grey colour which would look good on the permanent ones
Do you cover both tires on twin axles...? or just the top on both..?
or just the outside tire only.?
Thanx for the photo..
