TST 507 TPMS Repeater Question

After 5 years my Dill TPMS batteries are finished. I am thinking of switching to the TST 507 system so I do not need to break down the tires to get TPMS going again.

I have a 25 footer pulled by a crew cab Silverado. Will I need a repeater for the TST 507 system to work properly on my rig?

I run a 30ft Classic in a GMC Sierra and don't need the repeater. Have it but only plugged it in to test it.

First try it without the repeater. If necessary it is easily retrofitted.

2500 HD, crew cab, metal bed cover.. 34'.. repeater under rear bumper, powered by "running lights". Secondary double stick taped in cab rear window powered off cig outlet.

With good, fresh batteries, transmitters usually work. Unless trapped on interstate between other metal missiles.. even lose signal with repeaters occasionally if just right conditions.

I tow a 26'11" 26U with a 2014 Tundra using the 507 system. No need for the repeater.

Thanks folks. That is the kind of information I need.

In case someone is wondering why I am not replacing tires; tires are 3.5 year old Michelins, TPMS is five years old.

I tow 30' FC with a Ram 2500 crew cab and fiberglass topper. No repeater required. The only time I had a problem is when the battery needed to be changed out after almost 2 years.

TST 507 repeater - NO

I have a 2009 GMC 1500 4 door crew cab and a 1999 25" Safari. I have not needed the repeater. Also I have never had any of the sensors fail to display - EVER.

Hope this helps

Just ordered 16" Sendel wheels with Michelin LTX's.
Considering TPMS but guy at Discount Tire didn't know much about them. Do tires have to be broken down to install?

Using the 507 SG for two years on stock Marathons & wheels. Just program them, place on the valve stem and go. Only issue has been an occasional problem filling the tire, solved by removing it and putting it back when done.

My communications with TST when using the "pass thru" type is that I would need metal valve stems. That also makes it easier to change batteries if needed or add them later if I wanted to add them later. I believe I was looking at the 507

FYI http://www.airforums.com/forums/f48/...ms-137605.html

I talked to Beverly Stanley of Client Services who was extremely quick and helpful.

Yes... need metal valve stems!! The extra mass of the external sensors will cause a leak..at some time.

I provided my own metal stems to the tire folks and had them ensure they were properly tightened (later I found a small air loss was due to loosening external valve stem fastener) because vibration can cause the loosening problem.

A small drop of the BLUE Thread lock has resolved the loosening problem.

Be safe!!! You are protecting a sizable investment!!!

You will want to mount the external sensors on metal valve stems

If you need to have new valve stems installed I would recommend that you go with the internal sensors. They made accurately report the internal air temp than the external ones at the end of the valve stem out in the wind

Downside, need to break the bead to change batteries and internal sensors are more expensive
