Tires for 1984 31' Excella

We still haven't bought the tires for our trailer, but plan to do that this week. Anyone ever heard of Towmaster (Load Range E 10 ply). Any thoughts about these tires for our trailer?

Tow master has been around for a very long time.

The "E" load range tire may be over kill for the load you have on your 31' footer. (and cost more) Assume dual axles and a gross load of no more than 8000 #s then each tire needs a load rating of 2000 #'s times 110% safety cushion and that is a load rating of 2200#'s. I believe "E"s will be much greater than that.

I am not familiar with towmaster.

E 10 ply rating is a lot of tire. Sidewall inflation number will be 75-80 psi. I assume they are radial construction and not bias. You can check an inflation for load chart on Goodyear or Michelin websites so you don't have to inflate to sidewall pressure.

Your trailer should have the 6800# chassis, same as my 29' 1987 sovereign.

A load range D tire by RMA (rubber mfg Assoc) is suppose to carry 2540 lbs at 65psi. Four tires would be 10,160 lbs. I figure I load out at 7000-7300lbs minus 810 hitch weight on the truck or about 6300-6500 lbs on the trailer tires. I figure I have plenty of reserve load capacity with LR D's.

Thanks! I'll pass this on to my hubby. Hopefully, we'll get tires this week and make our maiden voyage beginning May 22!

I use firestone lemans at lt tires. they are not available in d rating any more.I had a set on a 73 31' for 30,000 miles and a set on a 86 31' for 28,000 miles and 5 years.firestone lowered the weight class on them for some reason.I replaced them on my 86 31' last year with a d rated chaperral lt tire also by firestone.I have run many miles as you can see on lt tires instead of trailer tires.I run at least 300 miles a month in the ozark mountains.I have run in the desert and rockies and have never had a blowout or a flat.Knock on wood!!!!!!! The trailer rides good and handles well on the lt tires.I know a lot of people swear by trailer tires, but I wilnever put them on my trailer after hearing about all the blow outs and trailer damage that they cause. Most people don't realize that most trailer tires are rated for 55 t0 60 mph and no more than 110 degrees road temp. lt tires are rated cosiderably higher.
