Tire Size Question

O.K. so it's time to retire (no pun intended! the old 7:00x15's.Tons of life still in them but I found out they are so out of round the Creampuff must look like a "funny car"from behind,not to mention the dancing canned goods!
I went to the Goodyear dealer today and he says the new equivalent is 205 R 15 and only come in load range C.I've been reading that most are running 225 R15's,which seem available in C and D loadranges.The Safari has a single axle and dry weight of 3800#.
What's the correct size?
p.s.-balanced price on 205's was $98.

You can still buy 7x15's.
The closest replacement size is 225/75/15
I wold buy the repalcement size if I had to do it again.
If you are going to a load range D tire, then you might want to closely inspect the rims for cracks or rusted welds etc. Make sure and get new valve stems also.
A search on the forum will give you much information, and many opinions on tires and sizing etc.

You want the Goodyear Marathons, 225/75R15ST (Load Range D).

For $10 more per tire, you'll have the peace of mind of knowing that the load range is adequate and safe.

I put them on my '63 Flying Cloud (same length/approx. weight as your Safari), and couldn't be happier.

If you're working with the original 35 year-old rims, IMHO you might want to consider replacing the wheels at the same time. I bought the Dexters ($42/each at Oakland Rim & Wheel--they ship). Make sure you get the ones rated for 2,700 lbs. They look great, and I don't stay awake at night worrying about wheel failure.

Better safe, than sorry....

Do you happen to know the wheel specs on the replacment wheels? I'm looking for the wheel dith and the wheel back space. Out 59 has 14.5 rims (I didn't know there was such an animal). So I don't have a good rim ti figure out the wheel width. I will be going with a set of mag wheels like a outlawII if it has a high enough weight rating. I just need to get the wheel dimentions.

I'm not 100% sure about your year, but I suspect our trailers take the same replacement wheels: 6 lug, 6 x 15. I don't know the particular specs that you asked about, but no doubt you could get those measurements from Dexter Axle. My wheels were described as: "15x6 Black Dexter wheel 655BC 2.7K 0+0 3.65P"

Maybe there's some useful info in that number?? Alternatively, maybe the retailer can tell you the specs. Oakland Rim And Wheel (510) 451-6022. Part # WL-156BU6

What are people getting quoted for prices on Goodyear Marathons, 225/75R15ST (Load Range D)'s?. I found the closest tire shop to me had the best price at $96.00. Anyone getting lower quotes?

Well the 6 inch width gets me half way there. I think knowing that I can figure out what the back space needs to be by measuring it off the old rim that fit fine.

Our unit would have come with split rims so whats on it is not original.

Try Costco if you have one near you. They beat everybody in town here in Atlanta.

Marathon: Sam's Club $92.55 + tax, mounted, stems, no "disposal fee",.... everything included.
And you can buy lifetime warranty for $9 a tire (free balancing, rotation,...)

Checked our local Costco yesterday and although they carry some Goodyear product they do not carry and will not order Marathons.
