Tire rim

Can some one please tell me if the aluminum hub located on the tire rim is supposed to come off when the tire is taken off the trailer. I had a flat tire and when it was taken off the hub came loose. I want to put the original tire back on but am concern that the hub might rattle if it is not spot welded.

Thanks

John

I am guessing you are talking about the shiny round thing that is inserted into the center of the wheel. Yes, it will fall out and then you put it back, bolt on the wheel and forget about it.

Hub can mean lots of different parts and sometimes the brake drum is called a hub. I think of the shiny round thing as a hub cap.

If you've ever been in the working end of a tire shop, you may have seen that the tire changing and wheel balancing equipment has a post that extends through the hole in the center of the wheel. The cap on many presses in from the backside of the wheel and is held I place by the hub when the wheel is mounted. They are usually snug when everything is bolted down.

My thanks to both of you. I now can put the original tire back on the AS and not worry about the hub cap rattling

If it's like our wheels theres an O-ring at fits over the cap onto a flange at the base to stop that rattling.

Ours does not have an O-ring. Don't worry that you lost it John.
