Tire Load range

Hi, I just purchased a 1975 airstream excelle 500 and need new tires. This is going to be parked for the summer at a campground so I will not be traveling around. I wasn’t sure if the load range E is not going to work, or do I need to find a C Or D range? The tire is 225/75r15. Thanks for any help

The original factory recommendations for tires on your trailer would be the equivalent of:

ST 225 75 R 15 Load Range C

My suggestion is to go with Load Range D for the slightly higher weight carrying capacity. I have also found that the Load Range D tires give me much better wear when compared to Load Range C on both of my trailers -- 1964 Overlander Land Yacht International and 1978 Argosy Minuet 6.0 Metre. I have run the Load Range D tires on both of my trailers since 1995 with excellent results.

Good luck with your investigation, and Safe Travels!!

Goodyear Endurance tires should come in the size you need.

The difference between Load Range E and Load Rangle C is the strength of the sidewalls - which is not enough to change how the tire behaves - EXCEPT for load carrying capacity.

The way to achieve more load carrying capacity in a tire is to increase the inflation pressure. A LR E will be able to carry more load than a LR C because the upper pressure limit is higher.

HOWEVER, the load carrying capacity of a LR E is the same as a LR C at the same pressure.

So buy the Load Range E's with confidence that you can use them in place of the Load Range C.
