Spare tire different than other four

Headed out to Rock Springs so I needed to pick up a spare tire for my FC. I've got Goodyear Endurance ST's with aluminum wheels right now. Could only get
an Endurance with a steel wheel. The lugs will be bit different in shape so I guess I'll just pick up 6 lugs just for the spare. I know the steel wheel is a different weight than the other ones but I just really need to have something to get me to a place where I can get a new tire put on the alu wheel.

Spare tire different than other four

I think it’s pretty common for trucks & travel trailers to come with spare tires mounted on steel wheels (if they even come with a spare). My ‘14 FC 27FBQ came with a steel wheel spare but I replaced it with a matching aluminum wheel when I upgraded to 16” wheels.

I think that's true about the wheels. I guess it's more important to have the tire itself match the other tires if possible. You never know how long a ride it may be to the nearest tire place that will have what you need.

"Cloudsplitter" came with a steel wheel, it's only been used once since 2004.

My 2018 came with a steel spare... When I wen to 16" wheels, I put one of the original 15" aluminum wheels/tires as the spare (lighter)

As for tire size, I don't think it matters as long as the load is right to support the trailer.

I am upgrading to 16" wheels and Michelin Agilis tires this week but I plan to keep an Endurance tire as a spare.

The four Michelins will be inflated to 60 lbs (based on the Michelin inflation recommendations for the weight of my trailer) and I will inflate the Endurance to 80 lbs mounted on the steel rim, so it should be able to carry its weight if ever it is needed.

As others have indicated, I am not planning to travel very far with that spare, in addition to the fact that a 16" wheel fits very tightly in the spare storage area up front.

That's exactly what I did. I had a blowout, so I went to 16" and the Michelin Agilis Crossclimate. The good 15" Aluminum wheel and Endurance is the spare...

The metal type for a spare is not as important as the design plane of the lug section to work with the hub. Does the wheel match the physical configuration of the others. Center or off center?

Lug nut differences???

With our old Sprinter the spare wheel was different and needed entirely different lug nuts. On our 2023 23FB the wheels are aluminum but the spare is steel. Does it use the same lug nuts or do I need to pick up a set at a dealer that we go by (we're a long way from home)?
