The tire definitely blew out. I do have a pressure and heat monitoring system and it alarmed about five seconds after the tire blew.

The truck however is now doing good other than the poor fuel mileage. Doing this with my phone so excuse the short reply.

Gene hope you do make it over would be good to visit again.

I have around 20k on my 16" Michelin LTX MS-2's. Never had to add air; stays at 75 lbs no matter the temp. Very stable; love them.

Yea, at 20,000 miles the BFG's were perfect also.

Looked thru this thread and it seems I am the first to report a legitimate failure with a 16" LT tire including Bob Thompson who was the first to report converting to 16", and also ran the BFG'S.

We have a saying in Texas, "Snake bit", which sorta means bad luck.

Any tire can go flat for any number of reasons. Will be interesting to see how this thread goes. Jim

We take at least hot weather trip a year in the South and SW.
We had multiple ST tire failures with D's and E's. GYMs, No names and even Maxxis they all failed.
We went to Michelin LTX P rated extra load because we had a smaller AS and did not want to buy 16 inch wheels three years ago. Other than a puncture due to a run over screw we have had zero tire issues.
If I am in a hurry, I go 70 and have driven a couple of days at 110 degrees plus weather. I have changed my last tire in hotter than hell conditions with traffic whizzing by.
A bonus is a much better ride.
Why didn't I make the switch after the first failure? I could have put Michelins on all my vehicles with all the $$ I spent on failed ST tires.

I am planning to wait until the holidays (after the summer and fall travel season is over) to create a new 16" LT tire failure poll.

With so many having switched in the past couple of years, it's about time to find out how the LT tires are holding up.

I think you would have heard by now if there were any tread failures on Michelin LT's. I think I remember hearing about one, but can't find it.

Again, my tire did not go flat and then tear up, it blew out (can you say POW?) and then the TPMS went into alarm.

OK, as of Monday morning I now have Michelin tires on the trailer. I can only say Discount Tire are good people to do business with. Time will tell about the Michelin's.

I'll second the report on Discount Tire. I bought my 16" LTs from them along with the Sendel wheels and Dill TPMS. Good price, great service.

I only put about 60 miles on the GYMs on my trailer after I bought it. They were 2007 date codes, so the POs apparently got good service from them but did largely east coast towing. I now have about 500 miles on my 16" Michelin LTs and it's all good.

I'm going out and getting Marathons before the Michelins blow. And, I've generally done well with Discount Tire, but now I have to go elsewhere.

In fact, I just realized we both have Airstreams. Now I know why I had so many problems with mine. At least he wasn't my wife's first husband.

I sure hope i've not jinxed the Michelin's. Headed home from Idaho and already have 1600 miles on them. Tomorrow they will experience some real Texas heat.

You ran over one of our biggest Idaho potatoes. We put spikes in them. Not the tire's fault at all.

I hope my 16" Goodrich LT's on the Argosy hold up well, so far they have been great. I put 16" Michelin's on the Airstream when I got it last year, as they were more available than the Goodrich's at that particular time.

Yea, they always say "you hit something". Funny how I hit something with the rear most tire.

If my life depended on a tire I would take any P-Metric or LT tire over an ST tire. If I were to bet on which type of tire would fail most often, I would count on the ST tires to fail regardless of the manufacture. I have not had a tire of any kind fail on me other than going flat sitting in the yard. I am sure if I live long enough I will have the catastrophic failure at some point.

In all the years I've towed travel trailers (since the 70's) this is actually the first tire i've had fail. Of course it had to be an E rated LT 16" and on this trailer.
