Just got new Endurance Tires

I just put 4 new Endurance tires on my 2017 FC/FB- replacing the Marathon tires AS originally put on. Should I worry more about Endurance than I did about Marathon? Tire place inflated to 80 psi-- I think that is too harsh. Any recommendations from the crowd?

TIA

This 'crowd' will have all kinds of advise.
I run 70 something cold in our GYE's, ck cold before every trip and never adjust hot.

I ran 60 PSI (measured when cold) in our 2017 International 23D. That is more than enough pressure to support the 4800 LBS that the trailer axles were carrying. The tongue weight was consistently around 800 LBS. Worked well. 80 PSI is not needed and just beats the heck out of the AS.

I always took a look at my tires whenever stopped for fuel. Put a hand on them to make sure nothing was running hot. Tires would gain approx. 6 PSI after running on the Xway. That is normal as the tires warm from cold pressure check.

No recommendation but I run the GYE tires at 65 psi on my 27' GT.

And, for what it is worth, I attended the Michelin seminar on tires and they mentioned the the GYE is a good tire.

The Endurance is a WAY better tire than the Marathon. We run the Endurance at 65PSI on our 25FB.

I went to the tire manufactuers tire inflation chart. It showes weight/pressure numbers.
I added 5 lbs to feel better and have no issues, before bringing them down from 80 the screws would come loose.

Check out Goodyear's inflation recommendations in this table for your tire size and trailer weight (you will notice that 80 psi is way above the recommended pressure for your trailer):

I believe it states on the sidewall 80 is for max load. I normally run my 25 ft FC at 70

I have an auto shop and we always rely on the factory rated pressure which most of the time is in the doorjamb and behind the fuel cap cover. The airstream has a rated label as well. I have paid very close attention to all the comments since 2018 when I purchased a 23FB but never heard this much discussion about the lower pressures. Does anyone know if the factory stated pressure is the correct rating for the trailer or is the tire manufacturers recommendation the correct PSI? Thx

Talking

On my second set Endurance with my 28FC. No issues. Run mine at 58-60 psi cold. No popped rivets nor broken hinges/latches any more. GY said no impact on wear/mileage difference. Do not recommend running 80psi Max pressure on any trailer tire! Many posts on this, but you can't tell some people that max is hard on tires and trailwrs.....they just don't understand that max, means "max"..

I’ve been trying to confirm max PSI of my circa 2017 410840 wheels/rims. A document on airstreamclub.org shows them to be rated for 65 PSI max.

If you owned a 35' with a slide out: GVW @ 11,500# and TW @ 1,400# you would see that 75-80 PSI would be needed. Airstream recommends 80 PSI. To be correct, you need to weight each tire load individually and inflate according to the tire manufacture's recommendation. What happens when a road high point, bump or hole, causes one or more tires to be severely under inflated for the temporary load? That is a good reason to add some padding to the pressures for a safety margin. One size does not fit all. If all your tires run cool at the same temperature and the tread wear is even you are doing it right. A hot tire, or uneven wear, i.e., outside edges wear= under-inflated and center wear= over-inflated, there is trouble ahead.

Except my Airstream placard also says 80 psi. So, its more than just a max thing.

IMO weigh your TT, then look at this chart https://www.goodyearrvtires.com/pdfs/rv_inflation.pdf
That said, your weight may change from time to time, so you will want to adjust accordingly.

Boy I'm rong again...🥲

I've never changed psi because of load in the Airstream.

The most that the Airstream weight has changed has been around 300 to 400 pounds, which did require a change in the weight distribution settings but not the tire pressure.

Now ambient temperature that's a different story.

But remember better to have too much pressure than not enough!!!
Done
