How to tell if marathons are made in China?

We're on the road in Oaklahoma over nighting at a Camping World. We're having all four tires replaced tomorrow morning with Goodyear Marathons because they are over three years old, have been exposed to a lot of sun and have very apparent bulges in the side walls. The tires are the original Marathons that were on the Airstream when we purchased it.. (Not my first choice but what is readly available) How do I tell if the tires they are going to install were made in China? I know that the first two numbers after the DOT on the tire is the code for the plant they were manufactured at , which really tells me nothing.

Marathons

It should be printed on the sidewall where they were made.

Look at the sidewall.

Jack,
Goodyears "Made in China" will be printed directly on the tire, near the "N" in Marathon. My tires still had good tread, rotated regularly when we had a blowout earlier this week.
They were the originals when we bought the coach.

Roadside replacement tire from a Wally store was a direct replacement. The blowout caused some minor sheet metal damage.
Took lots of pics of the tire, never took note of the DOT date, (in a hurry to get back on the road).

Just bought 4 Marathons from my local Goodyear last week. I was careful that they were "fresh" and they were, made in Feb. of this year. For some reason I thought that Goodyear had moved production back to the US, they have not. My new tires are stamped "made in China". I was not real happy when I saw that they were not made in the USA, but that was after I got home.

Not long after I posted the question a truck pulled up to the Airstream, there was a knock on the door and Hwjoe and his lovely wife paid a vist. Now that's what I call a response. Plus, Joe pointed out exactly were to find on the tire where they are made. Nice coversation and nice vist. Good to meet other Airstreamers on the road. .

It is printed on the sidewall "MADE IN USA". Just inside of "Radial Tubeless".
I just had four installed last week. Made in the USA.

Exclamation

I bought a new set of Carlisle tires for my Sovereign 21' last year. They were marked "Made In China" in very small letters along the bead, where they would be covered by the rim after being mounted.

There is, however, a two letter DOT code that clearly identifies the tires as having traveled halfway around the globe before continuing their journey around the Southwestern US. All the D.O.T. Tire Plant Codes

So far they're still round and holding air.

Orig. on our 07 were made in Canada ,replaced(5-6-10)with new "made in USA." In 2000 miles same problem.Bulges and seam /Groove lines in side walls.
Hope you have better luck. Inspect at the end of every day. Check trailer weight and see how close it is to tire rating? Orig.had about 15K on them and always covered (when not in use )
My next tires will be SOB.

Goodyear Marathon Radial
If you go to this link and click on the specs tab you can see where a new marathon is made according to its size.

We have had our 30' Classic, 2008 for two years now. The trailer came with Goodyear Marathons. The tires are original and were manufactured in 2007. We have had 2 failures at less than 4000 miles on the tires. Air pressure has always been kept at 65psi. They showed no signs of unusual wear. They are covered except when moving. All the tires on the trailer, including the spare, were manufactured in China. All will be replaced this week with tires manufactured in the USA.

American Made Goodyear Marathons

Just had a belt failure on my 5 year old Marathons. This is the first issue that I have had with tires on our '05 CCD. I called Tire Rack to order a replacement stires, I was NOT going to buy new Marathons if they were the Chinese variant. The Load Range D Marathons P225/75/15's are now being made in the US. The tires I am getting were manufactured this year.

I just got off the phone with a Goodyear dealer who has Marathon tires. When I asked where they were made, he emphatically told me that NO Marathon trailer tires are made in the USA anymore. All are from China. Since I am in a small town and had a heck of a time finding GYM here, I will just have to go with the Marathons from China.

Hold the phone!!! Got off the line with the Goodyear Corporation--indeed, you CAN get GYM. I'm not going to settle for Made in China. I called my dealer back and told him I would only buy American made GYM. He is checking. If he can't or won't, I'll buy from Tire Rack.

i'd guess that if they are 'in stock' that they are old tires.

I just bought 4 Maxxis tires for mine. They appear to have a good reputation. I have not read any bad posts about them.

To answer the original title question: with tires, the country of origin is molded into the sidewall, as required by federal law.

I bought a set of Marathons last month. I tried three dealers and they all had made in china tires . . . but one dealer had 2010 DOM made in usa. He had to dig.

I found made in china and made in usa in the same size tires with 18-10, 19-10, and 21-10 dates of manufacturer. It appears they are being made in both countries at the same time. I found china dates made after my 2010 USA dates.

UNfortunately, Marathons, Carlisles, Tow Master, Superpro Hercules, all have Made in China. Travelling only 140 miles to RMVAC rally and only 60 miles heading home, one of our Globe Trotter's Carlisles, Load Range D, 225X75X15 tires exploded. Slilght underbelly damage luckily, but Discount Tire said they self-destruct at 5 years in age. AFter arriving home, checked the other tire, and its belts have slipped and deformed and would have popped before too long. We have kept the trailers indoors, elevated with tires off the floor or on mats to protect them from the concrete floor and they still disintegrated.
We are going to check into BF Goodrich Commercial TA 22X75X16 when we buy tires of any on our Airstreams. We have HAD IT with ST Trailer tires. Better tire bead, ability to be dragged laterally on tandem axle trailer Blah, Blah Blah. We don't do circles in our airstreams, so come cornering on a trip can't screw up the Dexter Axles that bad????
Our recently acquired Squarestream will be the first to exhibit the BFG Commerical TA. A Local trailer repair center and Dexter dealer,. JIm 's Repair Denver, said they only use these tires on their trailers with great results.
