Goodyears!

Well I have read about the many nightmares with Goodyear Marathon tires but I just replaced my after 14 years of use!

Mine were made in Canada - went with Carlisle this time - hope to get 1/2 as much life out of them!

Foolish - No

Lucky - Yes

I hadn't realized they were that old or I would have replaced them earlier.

They still looked good - inside & out - but too old for me to use....

Goodyears just seem to get bashed here & if maintained properly will last as long as other tire mfg.

The current Marathons are China made, not Canadian.

Maybe he never moved his trailer? In that case I've seen tires last 20+ years!

The tires made in China these days will surprise you... virtually ALL the major mfr's now participate in China,... yes.. even Michelin (according to Discount Tire).

The tires made in China prior to 2011 were more suspect, but DOT and US mfr's have been closely supervising quality control in the last 5 years and although there is doubtless some "off brands"...the major-branded tires are now better regarded since the DOT banned several lines from import.

(Marathon load range E are still not allowed from China, however. Only load range D, according to Discount.... who told me they have dropped the Marathon line entirely when stock is sold out. They now promote Maxxis, Carlisle, and Heartland, and were pretty confident....but the articles I"ve read were only confident in China-produced tires that carry major brand names...no "off-brand", and as far as I'm concerned, Heartland is an off-brand, however the tire I saw in the showroom looked well-made.) I bought the Carlisle Trail HD's which are the latest/greatest from that mfr'r, and keep detailed records on use and storage, etc. I'll post any developments.

Notes:
  • Most Michelin car and light truck tires sold in North America are made in the USA (South Carolina, Alabama, Indiana and Oklahoma) and Canada (Nova Scotia).

  • The Michelin LTX M/S2's on our Tundra were made in the USA.

  • The Michelin XPS Ribs on our 19' Bambi were made in Germany.

For every person here that complains about any product there are thousands that are happy.

I expect to get one Good Year out of the Marathons on my new trailer. I'll then switch to Michelins.
