Goodyear Endurance Tire / Pressure

Good evening to all: Just purchased and had installed 15 inch/ Goodyear Endurance E rating tires on a Bambi 22FB. I noticed an improvement in ride immediately...

Question: The tire states a max pressure of 80 pounds. the dealer set the pressure at 65 as with my original factory specs. I know it is always recommended to keep your pressure at the required number ? which is required in this case. The trailer spec calls for 65 pounds ? Thanks to all in advance. Always appreciate the input / Dave

My dealer told me to run our FV19 at 80 lbs.

I always run at least w/n 5 lbs of the max or max. Under inflation is one of the main factors in tire failure.

Goodyear Endurance

I just installed the Goodyear Endurance on my 2006 Airstream Safari SS last month at Discount Tire in McAllen, TX. They are a 10 ply tire, unlike the Marathons which are 8 ply. I run them at 75 lb. per recommendation of DT manager with Max pressure of 80 lb. They are the ST225-75R15. They are D rated I believe; 2833 is the load index and speed rated at max 87mph. Price for four installed and balanced $497 before tax.

Air pressure

I installed the Goodyear Endurance tires and have traveled from NY to South Florida with no issues. So far I think they r great.
I inflated them to the tire pressure recommended for my trailer. The 28’ tire pressure recommended 65 psi.
The tire monitor temperatures stayed in the ball park as the original tires so all is good.
I highly recommend a tire monitor.

Well, if Goodyear has a tire load versus air pressure chart for their new GYE tires, one could select the pressure predicted upon some arbritary safety margin. However, one needs to know how much weight is supported by each tire when the unit is fully loaded for camping to be sure the tire with the greatest load has the desired safety margin.

We wanted about a 20 to 25% load margin on the 2014 31' Classic Michelin LT225/75R16/E LTX M/S2 tires. Our weights are:

Total weight——9259

So we aim for 72/73 psi for a 2,500 pound load rating. (2,062 X 1.2 = 2,474.4 pounds for a 20% load reserve) The Dill 1506-453 TPMS shows that is a good setting based upon temperature rise in the tires. Sometimes it is just easier to hit 75 psi and know are are good to go.

The 15" Michelin LTX (P) 235/75R15 XL tires (I used on the 2013 25FB International Serenity and now another set on the 2015 23D International Serenity) derated capacity of 1,985 pounds would be exceeded by three of the four wheel locations on our Classic. The minor load increase for the new Michelin 15" Defender series to a sidewall rating of 2,271 pounds gives a derated load capacity of 2,264 pounds. That slightly higher load capacity would still not over come the heaviest tire load with any safety margin.

I assume that Airstream calls out tire pressure on each Airstream model's placard for the same reason the auto manufactures specify tire pressure on the placard inside of each vehicle driver's door. Tire manufacturers can only specify a maximum air pressure; they've no knowledge of requirements for which a tire may be used on differing vehicles. There may be justification for adjusting tire pressure in some circumstances, e.g., changing from an ST to a P or LT rated tire. That said, I've kept tire pressure on my Endurance tires to that specified on the placard Airstream riveted to my rig.

I just read in the AS manual that ANY tire run with 20% pressure reduction or more of Max MUST be taken off the wheels and inspection done by a tire professional.

Please check your manual again as that is substantively different than my manual and I would be interested to learn if they have changed the wording. My 2017 International manual states:
"... if a tire has been run in a 20% under-inflated condition, it must be dismounted and inspected by a trained professional." manual 8-7

Under-inflated condition does not means under maximum, but under the pressure specified in the tire chart for your trailer weight.

The manufacturer specifies a maximum for the tire and rim configuration and placards to " ... not inflate tires to cold PSI rating beyond rim specifications.: manual 8-7

You are correct on the manual wording, my apologies!

However, USDOT Motor carrier Safety Admin defines Under-inflated as:
“If a tires HOT inflation is less than 70 percent of the MAXIMUM inflation pressure that is molded on the sidewall of the tire”

Not sure where you pulled your “..not means under maximum” definition from ?

Do as you wish, I will go by their definition which still is what I said above regarding off MAX just not hot.
In other words, a Load Range E at 55psi HOT is in fact under-inflated assuming 80psi max.

I run my Michelin Defenders (50 PSI Max) at 45 cold, as indicated on the tire inflation chart and at 90% of Max.

That is obviously not under inflated.

Andy Thompson recommended 44 psi on the thousands of installations of the Michelin LTX (P) 235/75R15 XL tires. The maximum sidewall number is shown an 2,183 pounds @ 50 psi.

The new Defender Michelin with the same specifications says 2,271 pounds at 50 psi. Andy still recommends 44 psi for the new version of the tire for his installations.

My TPMS reports that is a good number from the heat rise in the tires.
