Goodyear endurance

2018 sport 16 Had some axle work done and mechanic, non airstream, said there are bulges on the sidewalks.
Tires are 3 years old with minimal mileage and plenty of tread.
What is the best path to take to get a pro-rated warrenty on the tires?
Start with the local airstream dealer or try contacting Goodyear? I didn't buy unit from local dealer but have had a couple of service items fixed. Thanks

Just like any other purchase . . . go back to the dealer, and ask for the warranty to be honored. They can point you in the right direction. Do you have any Goodyear warranty paperwork, which may be in your Airstream briefcase? Keep the bad tires, and take very good photos of the defects. A written statement from your repair shop will help a lot IMO.

Get the DOT date of manufacture and production lot numbers from each tire. Take good photos of each sidewall label. It is possible that Goodyear had a bad batch and will reimburse you fairly.

If there is a Goodyear tire store or dealer near you, they might be able to help.

Good luck,

Peter

Overlapping belts in the sidewalls can create bulges which are normal, so maybe there is not any problem. Take it to a nearby tire shop for evaluation, preferably a Goodyear dealer.

There are some tire professionals that are members here. Post a couple photos and maybe they will respond.

All of mine have “dimples” where, I assume” the belts meet. Totally normal.

Roll it by a tire shop...

Also the endurance has scuff guard sidewalls which adds to sidewall features. I bet most people are not familiar with these tires. As others have mentioned mine also, all four have some variation in the sidewalls, and have since they were brand new.

Jury still out on this new generation Goodyear product in my mind.
Thank God the old Marathons are gone.
I looking forward to reading what you learn from your experience with this next generation tire.

Quite a few good "jury reports" via these search results IMO.

Just go to a good tire shop and buy new tires. That way you are starting “fresh” with the tires and you know what you have and how they have been treated. I would think that if the axle needed work and if the mechanic is reliable then tires should be replaced.

Plan B might be to go to a good tire shop and ask them to check them. I think a pro rated tire warranty will be worth less than the cost of dragging the trailer around to try to get the service.

I really liked the Discount Tire store I bought TV tires from on the road this summer after I picked up some screws.

You never know what those tires went through prior to your ownership.
The Endurance tires have been on the market for 3+ years and all the reports I’ve heard are positive with one failure due to a road hazard, I believe.

My own experience with GYE’s is good over the past few years and many thousands of miles.

If you replace I wouldn’t have any hesitation to go with Endurance tires.

Have over 2 years on our Endurance tires with many miles in the dirt. Other than picking up a screw, tires have been flawless. Trailer handed much better with the Goodyear tires versus the stock china bomb's.

Just to clarify . . . did you buy your 2018 trailer new from a dealer, or used perhaps? Not sure the GYE's were standard AS OEM back then.

Thanks,

Peter

They were. I bought a 2017 which came with Marathons, and the dealer relented to give me Endurance from the 2018 model.
I though how great the dealer was until I realized that someone bought a 2018 Airstream with Marathons.
Sorry.
Later, I swapped the spare for a Endurance also.
I've had zero problems with the Endurance. They even hold air pressure for months.

It is a 2018 and has endurance tires. The bumps or bump, I can only find one, is very small, can't see it, only feel it. I don't think it is a problem but will take it by a Goodyear dealer to see what he says. Don't find any warranty paperwork in the airstream material.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas.

My experience with tire warranties sets my expectations low.
The warranty is pro-rated, but it's not linear.
In other words If your warranty is for four years, and your tire gets a knot in two years, you won't recover 50% of the value.

If I was concerned about a tire, I'd change it (or all of them) to something I trusted more and be done.

90% of people couldn't tell you what brand of tires they have. I owned more than a few trailers and never knew what tire I had, they were black and round and cheaper was better. It was the Airstream that got me concerned about tires and the damage they can cause.

I tried to take pictures but I couldn't get it to show. If the light is at the angle you can see a very small ripple like the picture above but less pronounced.
It is very straight and appears to be part of the construction. Is the picture above defective or just the construction of the sidewall?

Robert's pictures show a normal construction characteristic. The belt seam (overlaps) create the linear "depression", as the belts (due to being twice as thick at the overlap) can't expand as much under air pressure as the majority of the sidewall, which is "thinner" (less belt layers).

Hope that makes sense.
