Duro Tires

I am replacing the existing (700-15 LT) tires on my 1971 23' safari.

The local tire dealer recommended Duro 8 ply ST225/75R15 (Load rating is 2540 lbs). Any opinions?

I am also replacing the old wheels as well with aluminum.

For what it's worth:

we're having some work done on our house, and the contractor had been parking a trailer for demolition material in front of our house for a few days. The trailer has "Duro" tires on it!
It looks as though the trailer had been overloaded brutally, and the tires were half flat. Probably been like that for 5 years or so. The worker gave me a blunt look when I asked him about the tires and the obvious abuse to the trailer.
I'd say that they are tough tires.

If your are going to replace your tires and wheels and currently have 700-15LT on the trailer, why not stay with what Airstream originally put on the trailer, LT tires.
A number of us have gone BACK to Light Truck tires and have been very happy with them (not having to add air to the tires after each overnight stop, tire failures and on and on and on).
Because you have the 700-15 LT tire, you can go to a 16 inch wheel and a 16 inch BF Goodrich Commercial T/A LT225/75R16 Load Range D. They will Fit perfectly as the tire is the same outside diameter as the 700-15 and same sidewall width as the ST225/75R15. Check out the pictures on the below web site:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f438/tires-tires-tires-16506-16.html

Posts 218 and 222.

The rims (both pictures are the same make/model/type, are on two different sizes of trailer and now have thousands of miles on them without any failures).
Others have also gone to this wheel and tire selection but refuse to post because of the berating received from some members of this forum.
They have private messaged me and stated this, and I don't blame them for keeping silent.
My only interest is to save equipment from damage and people from getting hurt.
Read the entire thread Tires....Tires....Tires as it will answer a lot of questions.
