Hi

If you have a lot of time, Mr Google will let you dig into the Ford / Firestone "debate" over tire pressure on the Explorer. Net result was that Firestone no longer sells tires to Ford.

At the heart of this is that the vehicle manufacturer sells more vehicles with a soft ride. They take the tires to a low pressure to get this done. The net result may or may not be safe under all conditions depending on who you talk to ....

Carlisle ST225 / 75R15 tires

Not only Ford, Firestone no longer sells tires to me either. Their unreliable tires tried to kill my family twice. This was in spite of me checking air pressure before every trip. Only redeeming quality was that the two total failures occurred on the rear and at very low speeds.

The stupid part was that I tried to use their tires again. Nowadays it’s Michelin on all our passenger vehicles or not at all...OEM tires are swapped out at the earliest opportunity.

Ah …… Mmmmm ……. not exactly.

Bridgestone purchased Firestone in 1988. The Ford/Firestone incident occurred in 2000. So while it might be true that Firestone tires are no longer supplied to Ford, Bridgestone tires still are.

What is different is that the plant involved - Decatur, IL - is closed, and the way tires are designed is different.

I go into more detail here: Barry's Tire Tech: The Ford/Firestone Controversy

What you got a couple years ago may not be from the same people as the tires on the rack today. If price is the *only* consideration, then they are likely slightly better than the Chinese tires from somebody you have never ever heard of. They are no longer anywhere near Goodyear in terms of consistent quality (not that Goodyear is perfect ....).

The plant code on Carlisle RV trailer tires is AQ.

AQ = CARLISLE TIRE & WHEEL CO. LTD. MEIXIAN, GUANGDONG, CHINA
