Spring-Over square tube axles?

Hello - I would like to raise my trailer by going to spring-over. I've found a lot of info for round tube axles. The kits usually include a spring perch. Since the square axle tube is, well, square can I simply move the axle under the springs?

This is a 33' 1978 Silver Streak w/ tandom Hadco drop axles.

Thanks

Do u have a pic of your current setup?

But if you want more "lift"... For a reference...I replaced our "square tube" (torsion suspension/ duratorque) with higher weight capacity and 15 degree added down angle from stock. Raised the Trailer about 1.5 inches.

Having the trailer "lower"'than the SOBs keeps the CG much lower and many think improve handling... the slight gain I had initially has settled to about 1.25 inches above "stock".. and the ride has improved .. no more open closet or cabinet or drawers when towing...

It is a leaf spring system. Looks like the shock mount is on the U-bolt bracket, which might complicate things:Click image for larger version

I do not see why it would not work . Might require different shocks. If you are looking for just a little bit more clearance , you could use one inch lift blocks . It appears that you have enough thread on your u bolts .

I replaced the leaf springs on my 64 sabre and it brought the height up a couple inches. It wasn't super hard to do and relatively inexpensive. Corrosion X REALLY helped.
I also replaced my brakes all around, though I paid someone else to do that. I'll dig up the paperwork if you're interested.

The underside of your axle (where it rests on the spring) should have a hole in it for the leaf spring center bolt head to recess up into. There probably isn’t a hole on the top side of the axle. You could weld a square axle leaf spring seat onto the top of the axle to accept the spring center bolt. You may need to flip the spring center bolt also, so that the head is towards the axle.

Ground clearence may be improved by replacing springs.

Almost 40 year old leaf springs are not the same as they once were. Some of the spring has ... sprung.

If you are looking for an inch or so a new spring pack would do that. In addition the ride characteristics would improve as well. The trailer will be suspended versus riding around like a brick.

Thx. I think either way the packs should be replaced so I'll start there. If I still need more (spend some time exploring the desert) I'll likely get a new axle and flip at the same time.

Thx again
