Replacement axle 1977 Argosy Minuet

Hi y’all! I bought a 20’ AS Argosy Minuet this summer and need to replace axle. I live in NM and need a vendor who can ship here for installation. Also need a service provider who can perform install in our area, as I have zero clue how to do myself. Any guidance/recommendations/referrals so very much appreciated!!

Thank you so much! I found a replacement axle at Colin Hyde Trailer restoration in NY that can be shipped to Albuquerque. With my current tow vehicle I can’t make it to Colorado because of elevation so I’m planning to use a classic car restorer in ABQ that we know to do the replacement. I really appreciate this forum and all of the generous people who share their experience and knowledge!

Just for the fun of it (well maybe not so much fun now, but to avoid not-so-fun later), might consider finding a certified scale and get the trailer's actual weight. With the certified weight, add in a full fresh water's tank weight and take a good guess at other trip necessities (food, clothing, etc).

Better yet, focus on scoping the new axle to the Argosy's GVWR (max weight). Also, using the existing axle's rating as an ordering guide might not get the correct number. If the Argosy does not have a visible data plate, a copy of the spec sheet, or owner's manual, documentation is likely available on Airstream's web site as a download.

Point is to make sure that when ordering the new axle, it can support the actual weight up to GVWR.

As a real-world example, my trailer's GVWR is 8,500 pounds and the original axles have a rating of 4K# each. Doing the math comes up with a 500 pound gap from what Airstream published as GVWR versus axles' rating.

If your trailer's max weight is listed at 8,500 pounds then based on 12% (1020 lbs) on the ball then the axle weight is just under 7,500 pounds and well within the rated 4K lbs each. These are not exact numbers, but should be close.
