New axle source for 1970 18' Caravel - WA State
Hello! I have reliable friends that are mechanically competent to install new axle and shocks for my 1970 18' Caravel. I live 60 miles from Spokane, WA. Since two of the sources often recommended in older post are no longer reliable, where/who do you recommend I order a Dextor axle and shocks from?
Thank you!

Colin Hyde installed a Dexter axle in our 68 Caravel as part of a restoration.

Ordered mine from https://sixrobblees.com. I am in WA and mine should be here on Monday. I think the nearest one to you is in Yakima. Takes about 8 weeks once you order them.

Hi Dave,
Is the axle you ordered a Dexter? I can't seem to find in the Six Robblees inventory. Perhaps because it has to be custom ordered? I'll try calling this week.
Thanks again,
Karen

Yes you have to special order them. I attached the order form they sent me. They are custom so you do need measurements. On the form you should see some of my initial measurements. Its really easy and took me about 15 minutes to get what I needed. I also made sure to ask for the larger brakes but I think the come standard with the type 11 axle. I also added notes to weld the shock brackets on. Hope this helps.

Dexter does not make shock absorbers for the Airstream trailer. Many times the Dexter axle may not have the shock mounting either.
If you want the correct new shock absorbers, you would need to contact an Airstream dealership.

Andy Rogozinski sold Inland RV some years ago and retired.
In addition Inland RV is located in California. California has some strict rules of operation during this pandemic.

Also - It seems there have been posts in the last 5 months here and in the Airstream for Newbies FB Group, from multiple people dissatisfied with the recent service from the new owner of Inland?? Perhaps due to the effects of Covid restrictions or ??

Curious
Following this thread. Getting new axles soon and curious about sources . . . not had much luck with Colin Hyde and now stories abut Inland. Maybe High Sky formerly Airstream Supply?

My axles are suppose to be on the next shipment. Hopefully tomorrow. I didn't know the shock mounts were airstream only. I think I picked it up from another thread that Dexter welded theirs on. I hope that is the case. All I can do is wait and see and then adjust from there.
I was looking at Inland when I first started looking but I was seeing threads about issues they were having. I tried connecting with Colin through his site but after a couple of tries with no reply I moved on. Airstream Northwest recommended Six Robblees so I gave them a try.
The quote was a couple of hundred less than the Inland posting. Plus I didn't have to have them drop shipped to my house saving another hundred. I don't know how special the axle measurements are between different Airstreams and since they are special order I wanted to make sure my measurements were right. Another thread has a post that even shows you how to measure.
People have posted on my rebuild thread saying that they ordered their own axles as well and it was pretty painless for them. I will post a picture of mine when they arrive.
