Since Andy left, Centramatics are no longer the answer given for every problem.

Iím in the same miserable boat: I ordered axles, 3/09/2020, still nothing. All communication is one way, everything goes unanswered. Im going to see if they answer the phone next week, if not. Iíll file for credit card protection. This inland RV company should be avoided like Covid-19!! The big rub is when I called Dexter they said if brought my axle to them they could build two axles for me in two weeks lead time!

As of now May 9- no. I did communicate with employees at Inland finally and they are claiming that the hold up is on Dexters end due to the Coronavirus shutdowns. I will be attempting to call next week to get more information. I order the axles (2) and I am picking them up myself in Byron, Ga. / all of the shocks and other accessories are supposed to be shipped directly to me. I understand the country is in dire times but an email or answering the phone i still expected. Communication should have been better- especially considering they have over 2 grand of my money

What dexter contact are you using? That may be our route. I wish there was a Dexter number we could call to see if the order was even placed by Inland.

"they are claiming that the hold up is on Dexters end due to the Coronavirus shutdowns."

This could very well be, or it could be Dexter is not getting parts from their suppliers needed to build the axles, or their suppliers are not getting what they need, etc...

Sadly, many of the parts/pieces needed to build things anymore are coming from all over the world, from just a few manufactures as part of the supply chain, if just one link breaks, the whole chain is shutdown.

There is talk this whole COVID-19 virus has shown the problem with a world-wide supply chain model and how certain areas of the world have a monopoly on the manufacturing of an item.

Will be interesting to see if the USA returns to a model of manufacturing many of the items we use in everyday life.

Stay Healthy,

Inland RV

I got a reply from Inland finally, they said they checked on my order and it would be ready in two weeks. Iíll believe it when I see it. Still tried to call them no answer. They did reply to my email after I sent it twice.I cross my fingers that these axles are exactly what I ordered.

Still waiting....Still waiting....Still waiting for Inland to reply to new emails, Itís down right disrespectful to disregard a customers query. I emailed inland again to see if I could change my order from delivery to pick-up. That simple of an email! No answers! No REPLY! Nothing!
Iím also waiting for the separate order from Inland for shocks, shock hanger kit, install hardware. Where is all that kit? 11 weeks into this fiasco still waiting!

ShinyShanty, I called the Monticello Georgia plant, they told me that all tore flex axles are built in Indiana and the lead time was still currently 2 weeks. There Ph. 706-468-6495. The pick-up location in Byron, Ga must be a dexter distributor and in researching this my guess is that inland is partnered with Red neck trailers.
Whatís the latest on your end?

2004 Classic 28 Axle Replacement

I am considering getting new axles for my 2004 Classic 28. It has the original 4200 pound Dura Flex axles made by Henschen who are out of business. I understand from this thread that Dexter is having delivery problems due to COVID19 so I will probably have to wait to get axles.

Seems most people are going to Inland to purchase their Dexter axles and Inland knows how to weld on the shock mounts, etc. Are there any other companies/dealers that I should be considering to get the correct Dexter axles with the shock mounts installed? Any companies around Denver or the central US?

As you likely read Inland is struggling to meet customers commitments. They also do not do any installs.

Look up Luke Bernander in Colorado he may be a good source.

Thanks Hittenstiehl,

I found his business listed in Ft Collins called LUKE'S MAINTENANCE & REPAIR COMPANY. Does he do Airstream work or can he just tell me where to go?

Thanks, Dave

I got my axle from Luke. He spec'd it, ordered it, and welded the shock mounts. He would have been happy to install it, but I chose to do it myself. He does all sorts of Airstream work. Have him show you his Airstream collection. He's got some cool ones.

He does do Airstream work and is well-connected in the Vintage community and if axles are not in his wheelhouse he will likely be able to recommend something.

Through my dealings ordering axles through inland RV I cannot recommend them. Inland RV just uses redneck trailer to order their axles from Dexter. I would call the redneck trailer distributor close to you, or look at Dexterís website and find a distributor for them thatís close to you. Find a trailer company locally that you feel comfortable with, I certainly wish I had never asked Inland for their help. I could share the order specís for mine, however I have a narrow body trailer.

Inland RV

Axle order with inland RV finally got delivered. However I ordered the axles with EZ lube option and that was not installed at build! Inland RV so far doesnít want to acknowledge my issue, they say my issue is with redneck trailer we took the order from them for the axles. I Had a trip planned for June 22 three weeks in Colorado business trip and Vacation. I was going to take my trailer but now I will now have to change my accommodation plans to a hotel. I hope the BBB complaint I started against inland RV will help resolve my issue.
My position is I did not receive the goods my receipt says I ordered and paid for. Probably need a lawyer.

To quote Dr. Phil
You can be right or you can be happy...

You can fight or you can camp. Lubricating wheel bearings is not a huge expensive deal if you find a reputable mechanic, so you might want to consider going ahead and accepting the axle AFTER filing a dispute with your credit card company for a partial refund of the price difference. (If you paid with a check or debit card, yes, you are screwed.)
Just retaining a lawyer will almost certainly cost as much as upgrading the present bearings to Neverlube. Call Redneck to check that out.

"Inland Andy" was a unique personality - and really took a lot of care managing his image. Behind the scenes, reality and image bore no resemblance to each other. When he sold the business it was to a total novice. Your experience is not unique, and I rather doubt that you will get ANY satisfaction... even if you persist for twice as long as you waited for the axles. It is a toss up whether that is due to the new owner not understanding the value of her company's reputation, or whether she failed to do "due diligence" and paid top dollar for a business that was stripped of assets during the sale. I would guess that your odds of getting satisfaction are less than getting blood from a turnip.

Get me slightly inebriated at a rally sometime, and I will tell you hair raising stories about the 11 businesses we merged into my old company, and several lucky escapes! Learned more about real due diligence when we sold than any we bought - a business colonoscopy!
