Getting Safari 'off the ground' for new axle.

I'm looking for some advice on the best way to get our 64 Safari up off of the ground so I can replace the axle. I've spent the last week reading all of the posts on how to remove and replace the axle, but I haven't the foggiest on how to get her up off the wheels (safely).

I've got plenty of jack stands (6) and hydraulic jacks (3), but I'm not sure of the best locations for them. As far as I can tell, the only "exposed" frame areas are right next to the axle (and that isn't much), near the rear of the trailer and the very front ("A" frame?). The belly pan and banana wrap hide everything else.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Don't feel like getting squished, so I'm doing my due diligence first.

I use the steel plate my axles mount to. When I did the axle change I think you can see the jack stands in one of the pictures. I used the same plate as my lift point.

P.S. I suggest lifting between your axles (just guessing you have two) and then placing the jack stands outboard of h axles if you have space.

Actually, we only have one axle. There is the rub. There is very little space to place the jacks/jack stands. We are having some serious thunderstorms this evening, but I may take some pics to post tomorrow after work. Replacing 2 axles may actually be easier than 1.

Find a plate that looks a bit like this...and jack away.




Used the axle plate on our 63 Safari to jack up & when I put it on stands for Winter storage, very stable, but for axle replacement you might consider two sets, two stands on the plate and two on the frame in rear just before it goes into the belly pan just for extra support. the majority of the load on the tongue jack and axle plates.

Jack on the mounting plate just fore and aft of the axles. Make sure to do it on level ground. I used a 3 ton floor jack 2 bottle jacks and 6 4 ton jack stands. I did it my self ( use a friend trust me)

I goes without saying (so why am I saying?): make sure your jacks and stands are on a solid surface. No small squares of 1/2" plywood sitting directly on the tposoil.

Thanks again to everyone for their help... The axle is on. I'm in one piece and learned a TON about our trailer. I'll feel even better about pulling her now that we have new brakes, new shocks and 4 inches of additional lift.

What a rush, seeing her back on 2 wheels.
