Axle dimension variation - 1970 - 1980

My 2nd AS rebuild.

Both are early 70's - a 73 27' Overlander, a 1971 31' Sovereign.

Axles seem to ignite almost as much debate as tow vehicles! Weird that there seem to be such a variety of answers for similar years (not comparing decade to decade, which would of course make zero sense).

These are my original Equipment Henschen 3200 pounders - part # 2-712-742

- Hub Face to hub face dimension > 79 3/8"
- Outside frame rail to outside frame rail dimension. 61 3/8"

My axles are now off the frame and lying on their side so I can measure them with accuracy.

Perhaps it's my lazy way of skimming this topic, but even if you stay in the decade of 1970 - to 1980, the variation seem bewildering.

Tube diameters of some 31s was larger. Generally for the Excella versions, but not always.
