Axle backing plate studs

Can anyone give me some support on how to replace a broken stud that is on a new axle that I bought from Inland RV. Nuts were being torqued on 10ft lbs increments and it broke at 20ft lbs. Andy is closed and I am in a pickle. They sure don't push out like trucks. Can a grade 8 bolt be used since their is no way to push a stud through the back.

You should drill out the remains, then install a bolt. Grade 5 will do fine.

My previous post has not appeared.

Unfortunately, the backing plate mounting flange is very close to the torsion arm.

Therefore in order to use a bolt, you will have to reverse the mounting of it.

The bolt on the inside of the backing plate and the nut on the back side of the flange.

It would be wise to also use a "lock washer".

Thanks Colin and Andy, will be using a bolt and lock washer with nut that was purchased Saturday morning. Hope the rest are ok when I torque them to 40ft lbs

Andy that worked great, one quick question I had to cut out about 3/16" on each side and top of my frame so the axles would slide up into the frame and elongate my back holes to fit will this cause any problems latter. My old axles were about a1/4" narrower.

Ah yes, how new technology can cause oops opinions.

The new axles, at least from Dexter have larger square tubes.

Why????

Because the rubber rods are larger, which means according to them, that the larger rods mean a softer ride and will last longer than the originals.

Time will tell.

At worst, the square holes must be enlarged, but the size of those holes have nothing to do with the alignment, in any way.
