'78 Tradewinds Axel replacement

Hello!

I have a ’78 Tradewinds with original axels and unknown brake age. While coming back from Yosemite last week I had a brake spring fail, which I tried to fix this weekend. After taking it apart, it occurred to me that I’d need to go through all the brakes and maybe it's time to "just do it" and do a complete replacement of the axels & brakes.

It seems that a break/bearing job is going to cost me about $400 and $1400 if I buy complete replacement axels and do the work myself. Instillation, it seems, will take an equivalent amount of time either way.

Any advice from folks who have been in the same situation? Other than cost, it there a reason not to “go all the way”?

Thanks, Erik

Go with new complete axles with everything installed, less expense long run. Older axles shot any way, and if you are handy easy to change.
