1967 Overlander Axle length
If anyone here can tell me the length of the original axles that were on the 1967 Overlander Landyacht I will be forever grateful.
We know we have originals, and we have an appointment in Jackson center in June to replace them. They need to know length - we have VIN# but they can't look anything up from that long ago.
So we had someone local measure but that doesn't seem to jive with what AS and Dexter have.
Any info is appreciated - I have searched this database and although I find that some of you replaced axles..those posts are 10 15 years old and no measurements.

Model years 1966 to 1968 may be 1969 should all be the same.
The 1966 model Overlander was much updated from the previous year.
The 1969 or 1970 (I forget exactly) went to a wider coach and the axle was different size.

When the body style changed in 1969, the width went from 7.5 feet to 8 feet. But that doesn't necessarily mean that the axle length changed by 6 inches.

The six inch wider coach may not be a six inch wider axle.
And a one inch difference in axle width would be an issue if one were getting data from someone that has a post 69 trailer to be used on a pre-69 trailer.
Accurate data would be desired.

At the risk of being obvious, if you have the trailer with original axles you have what needs to be measured. I am also a little concerned that factory claims to not know the size. There are are 2 or 3 measurements that are critical, I think inside face to inside face of the axle plate will get you a long way, this is easy to do with 2 people and a tape measure. Some want to know hub face to hub face but this is much harder to do as wheels must be off and it is not a straight measurement. These are the 2 most important I believe. I have done 3 sets of axles, all through Colin Hyde and even though I have had measurements ready, he always had them perfectly already. All that said, if I get to the trailer (68 Overlander) in the next few days I will take the plate to plate measurement for you. I would expect it to be in the 58.25 to 58.50" range.
Good luck, Mark D

Well, it so happened I got up to the trailer today... here are pics of the basic frame to frame outside measurement, same as inside of the axle plates, also same as rear frame at bumper. Looks like the magic number is 58. Also a pic of a tag on the axle, beyond #11 and 3500 lbs I'm not sure what else is there.

I ordered axles from Colin Hyde about 4 years ago for our 66 Tradewind. The bracket to bracket dimension was 57.875”. Please provide your email and I will forward you the email of the ordering letter to Colin.
