Who has a 15,000 btu Dometic AC?

We need to replace the Carrier 15k unit in our MH(1984). I am not impressed with the service life of the Carrier unit and would like to go with a Dometic. But I want a 15k btu unit.

So, if you have a 15k Dometic unit I'd sure like to know what model it is and what pan you used under it.

Thanks,

Hi,
How long of service did your Carrier provide ? The reason I ask is because I have been contemplating upgrading my 18 yr old dometic to a Carrier 15k unit.

After 3 years my blower motor is shot and the squirrel cage is cracked. Blower motor is $250, I don't recall the price for the squirrel cage (maybe $80). The RV shop where I have work done tells me that they used to be a Carrier dealer but that Carrier wouldn't make good on warranty claims. So they no longer sell or do warranty work on Carrier.

These guys have repaired/replaced other (non-AC) components on my rig with no problems. They even "loaned" me a used motor for my Kwikee step so I could take off for Mexico last winter. They swapped the 'loaner' motor for the new motor they got from Kwikee under warranty this spring when we returned. They also replaced the control unit of my Unified Tow Brake under warranty. I didn't buy the step or the brake system from them.

So, with this kind of service, I'm sure they are being straight with me about their experience with Carrier. On the other hand, they are only one shop.

There is a thread Upgrading My A/C that you may want to look at. There are many different opinions regarding A/C brands.

Yes, I read that some are having bad experiences with Dometic. Since I've personally not been happy with my experience with Carrier, I'm inclined to go another way.

I find it interesting that Inland Andy who usually takes the position that Airstream does their homework and uses the best products, seems to prefer the Carrier.

I've got the 15k Dometic Penguin Low Profile. It really cools the CCD. ( I swapped it for the 13,500 that came from the factory which is not nearly enough in Texas in the summer) I used an Airstream factory drain pan made for the Dometic low profiles that I purchased from the local dealer.

We have the Dometic 13.5 units, I was not informed a bigger unit than the "Penguin" was available; if it fits the older mo/hos, I'd buy it. Besides the ac, we needed a "air distribution box" and the pan, available from AS. We added heat kits to both since they are so cheap ($65.00 ea.) I have the part numbers if anyone needs them.
