Where did my AC unit go?
You just can't make this kind of stuff up ...
We have a 2018 Basecamp. We've already put about 15k miles on it. But we were driving thru GA yesterday and were caught in a rainstorm with heavy winds. When we stopped for the night I noticed a lot of light coming thru the AC unit ... went outside to examine and ... well... its simply gone???
I genuinely have no idea exactly where and when but, I'd guess it's sitting on the side of the hwy somewhere. I just hope it didn't hit anyone when it flew off.
Anyway, any advice on what to do? I bought all the warranties and extra service packages so I know it's covered (or I hope it is ... ) but, I'm in Jackson Mississippi, headed to Shreeveport LA. Im assuming I need to find a registered Airstream service center ...
This is my first trailer and first significant problem.

Maybe call Foley RV in Gulfport, MS.

Low bridge aside. The ac unit is help in place by 4 long screws about 1/4" or so, were those left behind? Assuming the interior trim is still in place they may be laying on top. Not sure they can even back out all the way with trim in place? Crazy

I can't imagine a low enough bridge to take out the air conditioner on a Basecamp. This is most likely the result of an air conditioning unit that was not properly attached. Our Airstream has been through hurricane force winds and has not lost the air conditioner.

Maybe you are referring to the ac shroud/cover?
This I can easily see coming off, just some small screws hold it in place.

Yes. All 4 bolts are still there. It's like they stripped right out of the unit.

What holds a/c on
The four long screws/bolts that hold your a/c on compress the 14 X 14 perimeter seal, and hold it on the roof through friction. The only other thing attaching it is the connecting wires (110v and thermostat wires, if any). If anything snags the a/c cover and these screws are not fairly tight, off it comes, and the wiring just rips out at the connection.

Any damage to the surrounding area?
A replacement A/C unit is fairly standard. Hope the camper was not damaged.

I would think if it flew off, you'd see evidence of a scrape on the roof as it slid off or frayed wires.

Presumably there are no nuts or washers at the tops of those bolts!

If you don't have a rear view camera, it could help in a situation like this... I know it's not guaranteed, but, with a rear view camera, you might have seen it when it happened. 🤔 Really sorry this happened to your Basecamp. 😟

The "nuts" are captured in the frame of the AC unit, the bolts are longer than necessary and best I remember maybe 2" of thread needs to make up to get tight. not something that just rattles out.
