don't these units need a freon recharge every so often?

If the refrigerant escapes from modern RV AC units and heat pumps, you "recharge" by replacing the entire unit.

Per the suggestion of a fellow traveler I checked the dip switches in a he roof top control box. Sure enough the tech had not selected the correct switches. I now have furnace function but the heat pump pump is only blowing cold air

Update. Turns out Dometic sent the wrong AC to my dealership. Not going to point any fingers but it was installed without double checking what was in the box. Skipping the middle of the story and moving straight to the end. I am back home and have a new AC w/heat pump. All is good in the world!
