thermostat atwood hydro flame

hello,
put off doing anything with my thermostat because it is summer. background, furnace was working fine then i turn the thermostat on, move the temp lever at the bottom and nothing. normally blower would come on and then the igniter would fire. this was during cold weather, nothing.

today took thermostat off the wall and put a multi meter on the wires. i have 12 vdc at the wires. turned the thermostat on, fooled with it some more with the multimeter probs on the screws and wires in the back and the furnace fired up. ?

fuses are fine and reset did not trip.

2 questions, does the thermostat run off 12 vdc even when hooked up to shore power and does my problem sound like the thermostat has bit the big one?

thanks for your wisdom.

I had the same problem with my thermostat. I did all the tests you described with no results, then turned the thermostat on and off several times and it fired right up.
I think the contacts on the on/off switch were dirty from lack of use. Turning off and on several times restored a good connection. It has worked fine since.

My thermostat runs off of 12 volts at all times, from the battery or through the converter. Its on/off switch is to complete a 12 volt circuit, much like a light switch, to turn the furnace on or off.

I think your thermostat is probably OK, just needed a little exercise.

Hmmmmm, well i guess i will see if i can clean some contacts in the thermostat. i am just relieved that the furnace did kick on telling me the furnace is okay. interesting that it runs off of 12vdc even when hooked up to shore power. wonder why it is set up that way?

got into the thermostat and as you suggested contacts in the "on off" switch were not making a good contact. cleaned then up a bit and seems to be working okay. thanks for the advice as it probably saved me some dough at camping world.
i had visions of having to pay camping world an arm and a leg just to be told i need a new furnace.

anyway thanks again for the info sam.
