Replace Penquin II in 2016 ducted Serenity

Hi, looks like rear unit bit the dust. Has anyone had the experience of DIY replacement of a Penguin II in 2 unit config with CC2 thermostat? Looking at ordering one from PPL and it should be a straight swap, but I have never done a project like this before.

Am aware the unit weights 100# +, and also aware of where not to get on the roof to avoid damage.

Any feedback from someone who has done this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Gary

If you're replacing like for like, it should be very straightforward. The actual work is intuitive. Wiring should be obvious and straightforward too as there's nothing to adapt.

Just so you're aware, a professional quote from an AS shop quoted ~$500 for the job. I choose to do my own as I had other complexities of transferring and installing an EasyStart from my old A/C to new, which I wasn't confident this shop knew how to handle at all.

The biggest challenge in all this is the logistics of maneuvering the old unit down, and new unit up. This could be trickier still depending on the accessories on your roof, including solar panels and vents.

I just upgraded mine and I highly recommend renting a lift of some sort. I went for a powered scissor jack (~$200). They also rent manual lift jacks that could be just as useful (~$70).

Good luck!
