Replace Ext. Furnace Cover

I wish to replace the external cover of my furnace with SS. It has a thin aluminum skin that is starting to show filiform corrosion around the screw holes. But I don't see anything that looks similar (same hole pattern) from AS parts suppliers.

Any suggestions/sources would be appreciated!

Airstream Supply Company has SS upgrade skins. I'm not sure if the one in the link below is a precise fit for your furnace door but they appear to have multiple configurations.

Thanks! I have looked at all the SS furnace covers but none offered by Airstream Supple Co. have the same hole pattern as I have on my GT?

Any other suggestions?

Hey @Hans627! Did you ever find a replacement for your furnace door, and perhaps even a SS version of it? Mine is starting to show filiform corrosion as well around the screw holes too. Is the screw type used here the issue potentially? Thought they used SS screws for this and that SS and aluminium were good at keeping corrosion at bay, no?

Unfortunately I have not found a replacement. I did put nylon washers on the screws but not sure if that helped or not. The corrosion is already there.

Ok. Thanks. I have found the replacements parts on the Woodland Airstream web site. These are the OEM parts so not SS. It comes in two parts, the painted plastic ‘door’ and then the aluminium applique. In my case, the corrosion has spread to the plastic door bezel. So, I’d have to replace both. But if only the applique is corroded, then it’s not too much of an expensive repair. And when replacing, I’d put on the nylon gaskets like you did to hopefully prevent this from happening again.

Strike that! Upon further inspection. These parts do not work on the Globetrotter. Seems to be for Classic, Flying Cloud and Caravel.
