Permanent A/C removal.

Hello all,

I am debating on the complete and permanent removal of my 77 excella's air conditioning unit. I am planning on full timing, but have never been one to use a/c, even in a home.

My question is this: with the replacement and upgrade of all fans do you think the airstream will still overheat?

I should add that the current unit is not functioning.

Hi, if you are never going to travel anywhere, this would be fine. But if you go to Arizona in the summer, you will cook. Some people, where they live, never need air conditioning and others never need a furnace. My trailer has been in over 100 degree temperatures and down to zero. I need it all.

If mine quits I will have it either removed and replaced with a smaller unit that will run on one honda 2000 genny, or seal the hole and use a portable AC unit. I already have one and it works fine. You only have to carry it in hot weather. I also do not have a furnace. The portable AC unit needs a 3 inch hole to vent or the use of a window venting kit that came with the unit. Mine does not need a water drain. Jim

Hi, I have and use, a portable air conditioner in my house; Mine can be connected to a drain hose or I just dump the water collecting container when it gets full. Mine will beep and flash a red light when full. How does yours work without a drain?

Drainless units can work because the condensate water is sprayed onto the condenser coil; the re-evaporated water is then blown outside along with the condenser discharge air.

Here in south Mississippi when the outside temps reach the low 80's it will be over 100 in my trailer. I could not imagine not having a well working AC unit.

does the portable unit produce a lot of heat too? I was interested in these, but chose to use a small window a/c which has a temporary mount..

When the sun beats down on that highly heat conductive aluminum....

The inside of these Airstreams is much akin to a solar oven. Yea, open windows and vents will help, but not enough for me when it is 105 outside and 125 inside..... Sometimes I like to take a nap, sauna naps don't make it for me.

Those portable a/c units, about how long will they last?

I ask because a lot of these kinds of things I see now days don't seem to work for that many years.

The a/c in my trailer is 42, and still running.

I would like to say hello, new to forum. Getting back on topic, removing the ac. If it is done, can the hole be covered with a vent like the other 2 holes in the roof? Aftermarket vent/fan? I am doing a complete overhaul on my 77 25" land yacht. Might consider fixing the original armstrong. Can the original run on a 120v 15A connection? Or do i need the 30A connection? I currently have a 30A to 15A adapter for power.

Been doing allot of reading here, very informative. Thx.
